I hope I can learn the waltz in b minor, D.145 Opus 18.6. It doesn't seem too difficult to get the notes down, but I am heading for a Jazz piano Camp in July (and need to practise at least SOME 7th chords and ii V Is beforehand... I have no talent for Jazz at all 😂), so I am not sure if I can find enough time to shape the interpretation, which I think might be way trickier than the right keys. If not I will submit in August.

    Hi Schubertians!
It’s a pleasure to join this challenge. I’m signing up with Schubert-Liszt’s Gretchen am Spinnrade.  I’ve always wanted to play it, and over the past few months, I’ve been learning it. Now it’s time to polish it as much as I can. Maybe I’ll even have time to play something else too!

  • I will join the challenge with sonata in A-major d959. I’m not sure how much time I have for Schubert this month, so I decided to start off very modestly with just finishing of the first movement. I’ve played it on and off for some time, so I would say it’s about 70% on the way.
If I see I have time for more, I will add on another movement.
Glad to see so many are joining! Looking forward to hear everyone!

I will be working on the Kupelwieser Waltz, but can’t commit to being ready until closer to July 21.

    • Waltz in A minor, D. 365 No. 2- I’m having trouble finding this waltz.  Can anyone direct me to where I could find it?

  • I just signed up for Schubert A major D.664

Just to let it be known, this is way out of my comfort zone. I love Tonebase! It has been a joy to practice daily with these great instructors, and to see my skill and love for the piano grow. But my audience is always only me. I’m only just a living room pianist, and I suspect I’m far below the talent of others. I never play for others, just my wife.  But, I’ll appreciate this challenge and the various ways it will push me. I know the piece will sound fairly good to me when I’m done. I’m just not at all sure how it will sound to real musicians…

  • Ok well I’m probably biting off WAY more than I can chew but if anything I’ll at least get a start on it. I too want to learn Schubert-Liszt’s Gretchen am Spinnrade. I I may not get past the first couple pages but it will be a great and fun challenge!

Andrea LeVan Hi Andrea!  Check in with Juan Carlos because he's doing the same piece and he is an extremely wise, brilliantly educated, supremely musical pianist.  And the kindest guy in the galaxy.

Had a good sight read of the entire sonata this morning, decided to give the first movement a go this evening.  I can't wait to refine it and learn the ins and outs of the work- this is a step above sight reading and it lacks a lot of voicing and some real tempo issues exist.

I'm heading out of town for four days- but my friends have a (suffering....like, really suffering) upright, so I am hoping that I will get some time in on the second mvmt Friday, and maybe the Scherzo and Finale on Saturday!

Bryan Sable your playing is such a pleasure to lisen to, even when you are just beginning to learn a piece. I'm looking forward to hearing it again when you start to make choices and find both a vision and a steadiness. It was amazing to hear how much you captured of it so early on in the learning process, though. Well done!!
