Has anyone played any pieces by Cecile Chaminade?

I knew nothing about her until yesterday, and I'm now a big fan.  Can't seem to nail down one that I can learn in 3 weeks, though...I guess I'll just throw a dart at my Spotify playlist and pick one?

    • Gail Starr I'm working from her Album d'Infantes ( Op. 123 and 126), which has several short pieces which are in general pretty easy, but also very well written musically. Perhaps Solitude from Poemes Provencaux (op. 127)? I haven't played it yet, but it's an Andante and doesn't have any large technical challenges as far as I know... A lot of her works  (especially the earlier ones) have lots of virtuosic flourishes. Have you found any of her own recordings yet? She recorded about 16 of her pieces, some in 1901, the rest in the 1920's. I think Serenade op. 29 might be another good one, but there are a lot of wonderful ones to choose from!

Thurmond R Thank you for the excellent info!  You know so much about Chaminade.

I took your advice, and listened to her on YouTube.  The recordings were not too bad, considering they were made in the infancy of recording technology!

I’m going to start on “Pierrette” today.  It’s only about 3 minutes long, so I hope I can finish it in time.  Can’t wait to hear your performance!

Thank you for the excellent info!  I listened to her recording of “Pierrette” on YouTube (plus lots of the other), and I’m going to take a stab at that one.  Can’t wait to hear your performance!
