  • I learnt this before - Debussy Passepied from Suite Bergamasque. Decided to work on it and try to improve - rather than learning a new piece.

Johnathan North3 I never gave much thought to the other pieces in Suite Bergamasque aside from Clair de lune. This is really a fun piece. I might have to revisit the entire suite. Thank you Jonathan for sharing.

    Hi all,

it鈥檚 been a hectic week with lots going on so not have had much practice time at the piano. I was hoping to learn the piece to an acceptable standard by the end of the 3 weeks but looks like I will need at least another 3 weeks lol

    • Piece you worked on: Alkan op 35 no 5
    • One thing you found easy: first two pages
    • One thing you found difficult: contrapuntal writing in the various sections between the recurring theme.

Vidhya Bashyam Thanks, dear Vidhya!  It turned out to be trickier than I thought when I first picked it.  Can't wait to see what our challenge will be for June!  (Although, I might not have time to participate because I have my annual chamber music week in Georgia and lots of family obligations.)

    • Gail Starr It's sounding good! I'm impressed at what you were able to do in these 3 weeks. It's a little slower than I'm used to, but you make it sound good at your tempo, and besides, it has only been 3 weeks of work. Very nice job! I think you capture the character well.

Thurmond R You're totally right, it definitely needs to be faster.  I actually only worked on it for a total of 6 hours during the 3 weeks because of other commitments, so I hope that when I have more time I'll be able to get it up to speed!  Have you worked on this piece?

    • Gail Starr Wow! I'm impressed! It's really sounding good for only 6 hours of practice. I knew you hadn't been able to work on it a lot because of other commitments, but I hadn't realized you'd only taken 6 hours. I haven't worked on this piece yet, though I do have the score and will occasionally play the first couple of measures. I'm looking forward to hearing it in the future!

Angela Fogg Thank you for your kind remarks!  It still needs a lot of work鈥hen I listened to Chaminade in her recording from a century ago she plays it more quickly. 馃槉
