Best print edition of Rachmaninoff concerto?
Hi -- I am using Schirmer's edition of Rach No. 2, and it's fine enough but I spotted one lack of accidental (for A natural) on pg. 33 RH (fast part of 2nd movement) and so am wondering about other potential errors. I'm skilled at figuring out fingering that works well, but an edition with more fingering suggestions also never hurts. Thanks

I don't have an answer to your question but I just started Rach 2 and I am wondering if you can share your fingering for arpeggios in the beginning of the first movement. Do you play all 4 or 5 notes in the right hand?

Trajan Hammonds I play the bottom 3 notes with the LH, and then 5 note with th RH. You can start the RH fingering with a 1 or a 2. I use quite a mobile forearm and rotation to help move from note to note as well, it really helps to minimize any stretching between the notes. Good luck!

Hi Andrew Smith — The other editions would be Boosey & Hawkes which many people use, and more recently, Henle. Henle came out with their edition only a few years ago, with fingering by Marc Andre Hamelin. It’s spaciously laid out, as you’d expect from them!

Andrew Smith If u don’t mind the price then Boosey or Henle are just the best.
Personally I only use schirmer when I’m just reading concertos “ as a side quest “and not to play them for concerts and going on details.
there s also the boosey edition on Imslp with the entire orchestra and piano ( instead of piano n 1 and n 2) if u don’t mind printing that much and reading like that.-

Yes, get the Henle. It’s beautiful AND authoritative. Though the price is just over $30, it’s well worth it..

Timothy I use Henle as well but started with Schirmer. I ended up having to relearning a lot of fingering. Henle sometimes might seem unorthodox on surface with makes more sense once you bring up the tempo. Fingering at different speed is the key here.

Their scores which I have ever used are the best when comparing to any other publishers.
