  • Have been working on 4-9. Generally focussing on the fingering for the triplets, sixths, and the cadenza.  So more or less all coming together. I think this piece is best played from memory to avoid the bumpiness of trying to read the score, turn the page, and watch hand jumps simultaneously! But step by step and here is my video of #4, and hopefully will record the rest tomorrow.

    • Variation you worked on: The whole piece!
    • One thing you found easy: Some sections easier than others an overall easier than most Liszt pieces.
    • One thing you found difficult: Sections 1,3,5 and finding the time to practice!

Hi everyone, I vowed to make a recording before I leave for the weekend so here is my video.
Having a deadline is great motivation to practice and making the video is a useful tool as it simulates a "performance" situation (I get a bit nervous as soon as I hit record).

Wish I'd had more time to practice and provide regular updates, but I'm just happy to participate and enjoy everyone's videos!

    • Brett Gilbert I’m impressed ,it was gorgeous !  I particularly liked the way you rolled those chords in section 4 and that cadenza was so delicate and pretty .

Brett Gilbert Great playing, Brett! With energy in the rhythm and a beautiful contrast in the melodic fragments! I enjoy listening it! I'll try to make my video today... (a bit nervous too)...

    • Brett Gilbert Well done, Brett! I agree, both to having a deadline, and getting some nerves while recording. It's been a fun ride these 3 weeks :)

    • I liked the section 4 melody a lot. It sounded great. A lovely light sound.

    • Brett Gilbert Great job! You have a wonderful energy propelling this piece forward! And the more you record yourself, the better and easier it gets! Really great experience to be doing this!

      I really enjoyed your performance!!!

    Great job, Brett!

I love how you convey the different “personalities” of each section.

And I get nervous just playing for my husband, so you are very brave to make a whole video.

ill try to make a video of the few sections I worked on yesterday, too.

  • This piece is really tougher than it looks! One of the hardest for me is trying to maintain fluidity in the triplets - maybe with another 3 weeks they could get better, though I wouldn’t bet on it! Here goes my final sections.

Ching Lee Goh great job! You are definitely getting the hang of it! 😊❤️  I can’t even play it that fast yet.  I definitely need several more weeks to learn this.

  • Here is my final video! I'm so happy to have participated in this challenge, it's been a GREAT experience! I almost felt like a student again, witch is something I have missed.  Thank you Dominic ! And everyone else! Already looking forward to the next one!

This week I've worked on what I like to call "The extended version" that is the version Dominic played. It has some added parts and ornaments.

What I found easy was practicing the new parts, because it was so enjoyable!

What I found challenging was trying to make a perfect recording. It is 10 minutes of music, and some nerves did sneak in on the trickier parts.

Overall I'm satisfied with the performance :)

Well done! Also, I understand how nerves show up when the camera is running. But in your performance, I can't tell at all.

Sindre Skarelven Hi Sindre. It is beyond my comprehension that someone could learn, memorise and play such a lengthy, complex piece to such a high standard in so little time. I am in awe! Very well done. I only started playing about 5 yrs ago at the age of 54. It would take me several months just to learn the notes for this. I would be interested to know more about your experience and training. I don’t think it will be long before you are teaching on Tonebase! Regards. Greg

    • Greg Thank you for this HUGE compliment! I can tell you a little bit about my experience and training :)

I did play some classical growing up, but actually started playing more rhythmic music in teenage years. I have studied jazz, classical and popular music in music college. My master-degree is from pop and jazz. I work as a piano and keyboard teacher, and also teach bands and musical-class. I like to arrange music, and compose original pieces. The last few years I've enjoyed classical music the most, so this is where I put most of my time now. I plan on starting a youtube-channel where I share things I'm working on.

Thank you for your interest! You are doing a great thing learning the piano. Hope you are having a good time with it :)
