I didn't know anything about Florence Price until I saw Michelle Cann lesson (Sonata in E minor) in Tonebase. I was very impressed specially by the second movement, "what Price wrote for this movement would easily qualify as a spiritual", says Cann. So, I was inspired to learn this piece and now I am delighted to share with you this video.

Juan Carlos Olite beautifully played, Juan Carlos. Thank you.

We met Florence Price's music last year at our local Chamber Music Festival. A piano trio performed a transcription of one of her organ works, 'Adoration.' It was one of those performances that made you want to sit there, saying nothing, because the music was beyond anything that clapping could convey.

Michelle R Thank you so much, Michelle! It is a personal mixture of classical and spiritual music, I will try to find and play more Florence Price pieces...

    • Juan Carlos Olite Bravo, Juan Carlos! There's so much going on in this movement, from those tender moments to those busier episodes. You keep it all together so nicely with a lovely atmosphere threw out.

This sonata has become one of my absolute favorite sonatas thanks to the performance you gave earlier introducing me to it! I think it's the perfect sonata for an outdoor performance on a warm summer evening. So it's on my list for next year :)

    • Juan Carlos Olite amazing - thank you so much for sharing your beautiful, heartfelt performance! I bought the sheet music for Florence Price's sonata a couple of years ago but never got around to playing it. This inspires me to pick it up and get to work - as soon as I'm done with some of the other little projects on my plate... !

Sindre Skarelven Alexander Weymann Thank you so much, Sindre and Alexander. I think this sonata has a very peculiar, very special air, for which it deserves to be known. It is a pleasure to play it.
