Dominic Cheli Thanks for doing this, looking forward to the livestream. Here are 2 questions I have:
- I've been working on all the sections, but I seem to have the most trouble with sections 1 & 3, which have revealed one of my weak points - consistently playing octaves. If I keep my hand in a stiff position I quickly tire playing these sections. If I try to relax my hand in between a passage of octaves/chords I seem to be "grabbing" the notes and it gets sloppy. So looking for advice on how to practice these sections and octaves/jumps in general.
- In your performance of this piece in the livestream, it is the more elaborate version but I also noticed you seemed to improvise some of your own touches in places. Not sure if you are improvising those on the spot or already decided in advance what you'd add. I guess the general question is with this piece and "salon" style pieces in general is it more acceptable to add little ornaments or even do you own version of the "mini-cadenza" at end of section 7.

Hi, Nick. Thankfully, these workshops are recorded! Like today, I will be working, so I can watch it later! When I cannot attend, I do miss the LIVE interaction that I find so fascinating. Dominic has the qualities - all of them - that make him a superb teacher! This is a wonderful group of people!

It is always impressive to me to hear how Liszt championed other musicians' works. He was apparently a large-hearted, confident (of course), highly skilled/exemplary/extraordinary musician.

Watching the LIVE stream section that I missed due to work today. You spoke of keeping one's shoulders down and not tensed up when one plays. I remember Jeremy Denk making the point in a Master Class years ago about the importance of keeping one's shoulders down and relaxed.
