Re: The digital piano thread
@Larry K Germany makes quite a few pianos. C. Bechstein (not the Academy or Residence lines), Blüthner and Rönisch (same company), Sauter, Schimmel (Konzert and Classic lines), August Förster,…

Re: The digital piano thread
@Larry K Yes, some of the Yamahas are moving in that direction. I still prefer German/Austrian/Bavarian (like my Seiler!) pianos. I believe Feurich and Steingraeber have repetition technologies,…

Re: The digital piano thread
@Larry K I think my upright is a similar speed to the majority of grands. What is amusing about the magnetic action? From what I understand, Bösendorfer was financially unstable and Yamaha purchasing…

@Larry K said: I know that you are using an upright with magnets to improve repetition speed so maybe all uprights will feel slow to you. My upright was in a room at the dealer with a Steinway D,…

Re: Week 4: Share It
@Peter William I wasn't talking about that particular video. I didn't notice a problem with that video either. @Peter William said: "1e&a" or "1y&a" whilst the 8th would be counted as "1 & " and the…

@Dustin Anderson That was one of the better videos of her that I have seen. I didn't notice an issue with her counting in that video, but I have seen others where she tries to count "one-y and a…

Re: Week 4: Share It
@Larry K She doesn't always count "wrong," but she counts the same way in 3/4, 4/4, 2/4, 6/8, etc. My current teacher and my previous teacher have both been seeing her for years.…

Re: The digital piano thread
@Larry K I agree about digital pianos. However, I generally find the silent Yamahas slow, and the actions tend to feel odd when they are on silent mode.…

Re: Week 4: Share It
@Larry K I don't like her teacher's approach, or the fact that she yells "One-y and a two-y" regardless of time signature. She seems not actually to know how to count.…

Re: I NEED HELP
@Peter William What do you mean by "the presto section?" To clarify, you are learning the posthumous nocturne, right?

Re: I NEED HELP
@Peter William I think the Chopin nocturne is probably too hard. However, there is no problem with learning it as a stretch piece, if you are also learning pieces at your level.

Re: I NEED HELP
@Peter William My teacher usually tells me to listen to a piece and than to read through it at half-tempo, sometimes hands-separately. Here is my advice: 1. Learn the fundamentals of music theory.…

@Peter Golemme Yes, I can play from figured bass. I do know what chord symbols (G7, Bsus4, F#7, etc) mean, but I actually learned figured bass first.
