  • I'd like to play Chopin Mazurka in B Minor, Op. 33 No. 4 live for Jarred. I have a video recording of the piece, but I would prefer to play live.

  • Hi, Jarred:

I am based in Taiwan, therefore the hour is definitely not ideal for me play in live. Therefore I will submit a recording of Schumann Kreisleriana op. 16, 2nd and 8th movements.

Musically it takes a lot of thought how to express the characteristics of Florestan and Eusebius in Kreisleriana.

I chose to play two movements here to seek your advice.

No. 2: Sehr innig und nicht zu rasch (Very inwardly and not too quickly) -

    - My question is about the rubato. I used to play it with flow tempo, however, I felt the singing line seems not expressively, so I started to play with more rubato and try to take more time on the melody line. I even try to sing the melody line as you advice in the Bel Canto TWI section. Do you think that my playing is natually and expressively from rubato perspective?

No. 8 Schnell und spielend (Fast and playful),

    - The speed mark here confuses me. Well I should say that when I played the piece fast, it sounds sloppy and ugly. And I heard Sokolov and Trifnov's performance which were "not" that fast and playful.  Then I started to play it slower and felt more comfortable not only technically but also musically.

My question is how strictly for pianists to do exactly the speed mark on the score?

Other than the questions I had, I would love to hear all of your comments.

    Thanks for your time.

I would love to have attended but I have been recruited to drive a grandaughter up north - to camp. I'm hoping we might have the opportunity to watch a recording 'after the fact'.

  • I hope you can help me with Beethoven sonata pathetique third movement. I will be submitting a recording. I am working to stay in tempo and making sure the many sections are clean and in right rhythm. My phrasing and dynamics are a working progress. Any advices and feedbacks are greatly appreciated.
