  • Hey everyone!

I am really looking forward to this upcoming intensive in NYC!

Obviously there are so many incredible artists coming with a wide variety of offerings available to all participants.

One offering that I am really looking forward to is the RNCM-style clinic with Stephen Hough! He is a remarkable pianist with precise and thoughtful advice for students. He will be working through difficult passages with 10 students - should be a really eclectic and enjoyable session!

Dominic Cheli I wasnā€™t able to attend this year but I am very interested in participating in the future. Is it possible to find out the 2025 intensive dates in advance so I can plan work vacation to accommodate my participation? Many thanks!

  • Looks great! Luckily for me I happen to live in Manhattan so this would be an easy commute for me ;) But unfortunately I wouldn't be in the position for the active levels. I might want to do one of the days with the visitor pass. Will you be posting a schedule at any point, with a chart that shows which workshops are accessible for the visitor pass? I will probably like to plan ahead. I would love the class on Bach & Scarlatti by Magdalena Baczewska, I like her classes very much!

Jonathan Wing I had the same question.  Thanks, Jonathan!

    • Gail Starr Jonathan Wing Great questions!

As we speak, I am currently finalizing the calendar/chart showing schedule of events. That way, you can see what is happening, and hopefully join us for as much as you are able!

I agree, any lecture from Magdalena is a revelation!

    • Dominic Cheli Hi, I am wondering if a calendar of the events has been posted? I can probably only afford one day (now I am thinking about the Active level!), and wishing to select wisely ;) I'm interested in particular with Magdalena Stern-Baczewska, Sara Davis Buechner, and/or Jeffrey Biegel. Is there a day where I could experience a class with at least 2 (or all 3) of them?

Also, I noticed you are offering a Tonebase Lifetime! However, what is that restricted to? Is that for any of the instruments of just piano? I'm asking because I already have a lifetime membership for piano (yay!), but I also play cello and (try) to sing. Wondering if by any chance the lifetime offering there is for the entire platform or if I could apply it to, say, cello for example.

Sorry for so many questions ā€“ I'm still on the fence but since I live here in NYC it sure does make it a lot easier/more tempting to come out for a day :)

Jonathan Wing Hi Jonathan! Co-Director Noah here. Delighted you're interested to join us as an Active participant! The best bet for your would be November 4 -- that day we've got two out of three of the artists you want to see!

      Nov 4th: 2-4pm Magdalena Stern-Baczewska ā€œLecture on Bach and Scarlattiā€ @ Opera America
Nov 4th: 5-8pm Jeffrey Biegel Masterclass @ Yamaha Artist Services

I'll refer you to Dominic Cheli for your question about Lifetime.

Looking forward so much to meeting you!

    Hey folks!

Great to connect with all of you -- I'm tonebase Piano Intensive Co-Director alongside Dominic, and I can't wait to share this amazing musical journey together. We've been working hard behind the scenes to give you an experience you'll remember forever.

I'm honestly so thrilled to see the range of artists bringing their unique perspectives to this. One set of workshops in particular I think will fascinate everyone: Sara Davis Buechner's tonebase School of Virtuosity. Her insights make dramatic improvements in technique from directions rarely thought of, and they stick with you for life.

    • Noah Alden Hardaway Absolutely - Sara has made a big difference in my understanding of technique, and I know we at tonebase can't wait to share more of her lessons with everyone on our website + her unique charismatic teaching in person this November!

Noah Alden Hardaway Hi Noah - I'd like to echo LC's question -  for those of us coming from out of state, I'd love to know recommendations for hotels close by, also suggestions for what type of pieces would be appropriate?

    • Noah Alden Hardaway I'll have to check out her course on the site, and I might considering going to the workshop in NY as well. However, is "School of Virtuosity" related to the book of the same name by Czerny? I shudder, sweat, and palpitate when I even think of Czerny lol.

Jonathan Wing Hi again Jonathan! Fear not: Sara's "tonebase School of Virtuosity" isn't Czerny-oriented. Instead, it's based on the Alberto JonĆ”s "Master School of Piano Playing," a 1500-page compendium of amazing exercises by the greatest pianists of the golden age and other remarkable things to practice. You can take a look at her tonebase course for a preview, and then see about coming to see us that day (Nov 12!).

    • Noah Alden Hardaway Great, thank you! A relief to know it's not based on Czerny's book haha šŸ˜… I'll have a look at the course and perhaps I can make it that day too. Cheers!

Man, what a cast of characters leading these sessions! I'm not really in a state in life where I can participate, but after I retire in ~100 years, I'd love to go to something like this.

Marc M I know what you mean! I just retired recently (yup, Iā€™m THAT old!) and I FINALLY have time for pianoā€¦at least you are doing a lot while your kiddos are still little, so you wonā€™t have to re-learn stuff like I did. šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘

Is this open to all levels? I sent in my information but didnā€™t hear anything back. Iā€™m not sure if this is a good fit, but sounds like a really great opportunity to hear from the best.

This sounds great! Maybe next year, as I've already committed to Piano Camp in August. I may still be recovering from that in November. šŸ˜†
