Note: this intensive will start on August 31st!
Starting August 31st join pianist Jarred Dunn for a focused two-week intensive designed to deepen your understanding of the Classical sonata.
Across two weeks, you’ll explore the style, structure, sound, and musical language that define this repertoire, with a new assignment each week to help you put those ideas into practice.
This intensive is a chance to level up your knowledge of Classical sonatas, sharpen your listening, strengthen your interpretation, and develop a more confident approach to this repertoire.
Whether you’re currently learning a sonata or simply want to understand Classical style on a deeper level, you’re welcome to take part.
Week 1 begins August 31st.

I'm now not sure - do we choose our own Sonatas, or one from the list Dominic posted? And, having chosen it, do we post that choice here? Lastly, then what?

Hello Jarred, I choose sonata no 22 in F major Op 54 by Beethoven .This piece has only 2 movements and trying to learn it in two week, however I am going to have my Right eye surgery tomorrow . So I am not sure if I can make it. I am working on B section in I movement and A section m 124-136 on RH and trills. The tempo is at 80-90 for the first movement. Here is the structure form for the first movement
For Technique advice for the image below would much appreciate:octaves and RH 16 notes( fingering) on m 124-131 and trills m 132 ( I am using 3-4-3-2-1) and m 133 ( 3-1-3-3-1——2-1-)

So sorry I need to withdraw. Some family things came up and I cannot give this the time it deserves. I am disappointed as I was looking forward to this. So sorry!

How do the two-week intensives work? Is it ok for me to follow along with the assignments/analysis prompts even if I am not formally participating, or did I have to sign up?

After much playing through of Haydn sonatas today I have decided to study Hob.xvi/25 in E flat. I must say that after a while they were all starting to sound the same… So unlike Beethoven or Mozart!

Hi Jarred, I realize now that the aim of this challenge appears to be learning a new classical sonata within the two-week period? I had previously proposed a sonata I have already been working on, the Mozart K 333, but if the goal is to take on something completely new within the two weeks, I would choose the Haydn Sonata in D Hob XVI: 51 from your list. I started working on it today. Is this the expected protocol? Thanks for clarifying, if you have the time. All best, Graeme
