“Imperfect Pitch: Demystifying Ear Training with Evan Fein”

American composer and Juilliard faculty member Evan Fein discusses the history and ethos of aural skills classes. A moderated discussion with Dominic Cheli will shed some light on this often misunderstood yet essential element of a musician’s training. Fein will then demonstrate some of the activities students engage with and give a few tips on how any viewer can hone their ears at home. Live Q&A to follow.

  • I have been working on ear training the last few years and have made some progress but still have  difficulty with recognizing some tones in relation to an established key ( e.g. minor  6th or minor 7th after playing a I-IV-V-I as a cue) , any tips on addressing that?

Hi, are there any tips to hear for a succession of chords and their inversions in a major or minor key? E.g

    chords IIb - V7a - Ia.
