Jackie's practice diary for Mozart D minor concerto

I decided to record where I am at with the first movement today in the hope that it will be much better next week. I just made a lot of changes and brought it up to the tempo that I like tonight, but it's very messy. Also, there are a lot of issues because I'm trying to change things about the voicing, which is doing my head in at this point. I was also trying out a few different techniques which didn't always work out for me. Nonetheless, here it is, my first recording of my part for the whole movement, at tempo.

This is very hard, especially on my piano because there's some issue with the escapement of the keys on my piano, but I'm trying it anyway. I think maybe I can find a way to make it consistent.

REMEMBER FOCUS ON NOT SPLITTING IN LEFT HAND - ALSO - LH 2ND FINGER MUST SOUND IN THE SECOND ONE.

Jackie needs a bit more depth in lh. Hard to find just the right balance.try practicing hands reversed later.

  • It will be interesting to follow your journey on this concerto! The music among the best ever written, and your playing of it is already marvelous. Will you be able to fix the issue with the escapement?  Best of luck with the concerto! 🎶

Your fluidity and majesty of interpretation are simply wonderful!  When are you playing this with an orchestra?

  • I really enjoyed this and hope you'll post again. I love the detailed practice notes you gave yourself--I'm terrible about listening to recordings of myself and critiquing them, even though I know it would help me be a better player.

I like where you're headed with the balance between the two hands. There are many beautiful ways to interpret Mozart, but I personally prefer a full, masculine sound from the bass in Mozart.
