Week 4: Submit Your Recording for the Chopin Watch Party!

Update!

Our Watch Party has been re-scheduled for this upcoming Monday at 11am PT!

It’s sharing time! Drop your recording below so we can cheer you on at the Chopin Watch Party — happening Monday October 20th!

What to Post

  • A video of your Chopin piece — polished, messy, dramatic, cautious... all versions welcome.

  • Write what you worked on this week — tone, voicing, octaves, courage, not throwing the score across the room, etc... 😄

Deadline

Please post by Tuesday, Oct 15th at 9:00 AM PT so I have time to build a playlist worthy of Chopin and popcorn.

I have a video of Chopin's Etude Op. 10 No 4 etude...currently adding my score notes. Will be up in a few mins. :)

This week I did a fair bit of slow-to-fast metronome practice on specific sections, with an occasional play-through. I need to practice intentionally breathing at the end...I tend to get nervous there and stop breathing, and by the time I hit the last right hand flourish I'm too tense to continue, haha.

That is so impressive!  Don't think I could do that in a million years. Respect!

       great progress Marc !!

yes definitely slow practice would be the key , I’m not even close to thinking about attempting this one for now

btw in your previous video , your kids are sweet , I’m sure they are absorbing the musical atmosphere even if they might not show it !

Way to go Marc! AND you have an annotated video (I don't see how people do that -- it's just one more thing that I can't deal with learning!). I figure with time you'll play those last sections with the same sense of release as you do earlier sections, and that the last RH arpeggio will feel like one big sweep up and down rather than separate parts. Op. 10 no. 4 certainly qualifies as a "Chopin challenge" -- thanks for sharing.

Very good job, Marc! This étude is... devilishly difficult.

Thank you! I'll keep working on it and re-record in a month...we'll see how it sounds then!

Chopin's Nocturne in C# minor, Op. Posth.

This is my first time trying from memory. I obviously flubbed a few notes, but I'd be recording from now until next year to keep trying to get it better. Thank heavens for deadlines! Also, you may hear my dog snoring in the background. Since it's a Nocturne, it somehow seems appropriate.

Such a beautiful piece! You have a beautiful tone and phrasing! Bravo! It is funny to hear your dog snoring, I thought it was your breathing at first 😄

So nicely played! I really enjoyed it, and I don't think most people would even hear any missed notes at all. Thanks for sharing.

Victoria! Lovely introduction, beautiful tone and expressions, rubatos are well timed and dynamics pays to the atmosphere exactly as it should. As a bonus to this beautiful rendition you sent us, I could really hear your dog snoring this time.😂

Oh, that was so nicely done!  Very dreamy, far away quality, so pleasant to listen to and very nice movement throughout.  Lovely.

So nicely played Derek, thanks -- and I'm sure it's harder than it sounds (which shows how well you play it!).

Hi there, Derek, so good to see you again even if only on video.  Lovely submission, really nice job, opening left hand such a wonderful rich deep sound.

I think I didn't post at the good place this morning. I thought I had until Thursday to submit the video, so I tried rapidly to record something this morning.😬 I was working in improving my Waltz op.64 no 2. I would have needed a few more days as I changed some fingering this weekend and it is not automatic yet. But my goal was to participate in the challenge so here it is! Thank you!
