Beautiful. Also working on this but  probably not ready to perform...unless a lot slower...Thanks for the inspiration though.

There is a wide range of tempi in the recordings of this piece. I tend toward the slower ones that let me savor those chord changes.

    Hi all

here is my submission for the Chopin challenge

Nocturne in C# minor op 27 no 1

my main challenge was not to be intimidated when pressing the record button!!

this piece is like a mini ballade, it has the nocturne element as well as a stormy middle section which includes a mini polonaise and there is a mini barcarolle towards the end .
really enjoyed working on this , still have some work to do emphasising the range of dynamics

I didn’t get around to doing the chords analysis, I was incredibly impressed by everyone’s work on this

I definitely need to do it !

Wow, awesome. I really enjoyed listening to you play this amazing composition. (and the recording button managed to foil me today, but you seemed to handle it no problem!) Good advertisement for Yamaha piano too! Thanks

It's a wonderful interpretation, Mark. full of the dramatic contrasts that make this piece so gorgeous. Bravo!

What a fascinating piece. You do a tremendous job of capturing the sense of each section and differentiating them. Especially that stormy section!

I worked on the other c# minor Nocturne.

lovely expression of voices in lyrical sections and perfect dynamic contrasts in the middle section to bring the sense of drama. Really beautifully done!

Here is my attempt to record Etude 10/4 ... it's the best I can do for today and I don't think I will have time to retake before the deadline.

It's very far from good - quite sloppy tbh. I really should have checked with the metronome at the beginning as I was going a tad too fast to keep everything together ( lesson noted for next time ... better slower and steadier ). This was my last attempt and at this point I had been going at it for about 50mins already; my fingers and my mind were definitely going. Though a plus point comparing to 3 weeks ago is that my hands and arms are feeling pretty ok ... so a little pat on the back on removing those tension 🙂

Way to go Priya! Thanks for sharing. In my opinion your rhythm is super steady and it didn't seem like you were going too fast. To me it seems you already have all the physical gestures quite well developed for every part of this, and it's already pretty good (the etudes sound good below tempo anyway). Probably with time you'll play this fairly comfortably? Cheers

thank you so much for the feedback 😊 I'm not aiming to go much faster than this but definitely to be able to play it comfortably without tension. Another thing to work on is to make it sound more musically ... and more fuoco!!!

Just thought I would share a snippet of my journey working on this piece as I don't think I have ever spent this amount of time working continuously on any one piece before, and it has taken a lot of patience not to get ahead of myself. It was only after week 6 that my teacher allowed me to start working on increasing the tempo and since then it has been a long process climbing up that mountain. It still needs a couple more months before I feel at ease playing at the speed of my submitted recording (~112bpm which is faster than my current top metronome practice speed at 108bpm). Good thing that I'm not bored working on it yet! 😆

Extraordinary job, Priya. I like the powerful sense of rhythm, it never slows down.

You call that sloppy? My jaw is on the floor. I dont think I saw the previous video, but your hands and arms looked very relaxed and the rhythm was very even. Kudos!

well if your fingers complained, it isn't visible at all! I'm dreaded of Chopin's etudes (and I know I'm not the only one), and even it's still in the process, you made it look so easy. Way to go!

Priya, this is a great start! I played it many years ago in recitals and a competition, and it's a real bear.  You've got all the pieces in place. There are more than several places in this etude where it's really challenging to eliminate the tension you refer to, but you have the technique to do it. Bravo. -

thank you so much! I rarely play anything that is both fast and furious so it truly is a challenging learning journey 🙂

    Hello everyone!

I haven’t been really active in the previous weeks, but anyway here comes the Nocturne Op. 15 No. 2 where it is standing at this point.

I promise I did harmonic analysis and structural analysis (in this case we have ABA1 form, I believe English term would be “ternary form”?) long time ago, this is something I am regularly required to do by my professor, but it was so useful to hear some really good tips - thank you, dr. Kim!
