Week 4: Submit Your Recording for the Chopin Watch Party!

Update!

Our Watch Party has been re-scheduled for this upcoming Monday at 11am PT!

It’s sharing time! Drop your recording below so we can cheer you on at the Chopin Watch Party — happening Monday October 20th!

What to Post

  • A video of your Chopin piece — polished, messy, dramatic, cautious... all versions welcome.

  • Write what you worked on this week — tone, voicing, octaves, courage, not throwing the score across the room, etc... 😄

Deadline

Please post by Tuesday, Oct 15th at 9:00 AM PT so I have time to build a playlist worthy of Chopin and popcorn.

I think I didn't post at the good place this morning. I thought I had until Thursday to submit the video, so I tried rapidly to record something this morning.😬 I was working in improving my Waltz op.64 no 2. I would have needed a few more days as I changed some fingering this weekend and it is not automatic yet. But my goal was to participate in the challenge so here it is! Thank you!

I'm confused! October 17th on my calendar is a Friday, not Tuesday....not sure I can make an entry by the 15th either....😟

I think it's Friday, maybe  just got the day at the top of the page wrong.

Hi! Here's an updated recording of Chopin 53 for the watch party. This week I worked on playing more "full out" (volume, drive), versus when I practice at a more subdued volume and relaxed flow. Still getting ahead of myself sometimes, especially with the memory and getting the grace notes & trills to all sound clearly, but I like to think that's how we keep it human (authentic vs AI 😉). Looking forward to listening to everyone's Chopin journeys!

p.s.  I likely have to leave for work around 2:40pm Eastern during the watch party, so if I disappear online, that's why.

(For what it's worth, I interpreted the "deadlines" as video submission tomorrow Wednesday 9am PT, in advance of the watch party on Friday Oct 17...)

Beautiful, full-bodied and resonant sound!  Clear and articulate, really like your attention to the small details.  Not a piece for the faint-hearted and you did an excellent job.  Brava!

Beautifully played and I envy your trills. Great dynamics and that left hand repetitive section was spot on.

Raindrop..The story I heard is that Chopin was ill and resting at a monastary and a storm was coming up...quiet at first with 2 different high points where the storm is kicking in and a quiet ending when the storm has passed...

You're off to a good start. You may want to look at dividing the piece into sections and getting comfortable with one before moving on to the next. I think that would help with this piece, since sections are repeated.

I guess I should answer your questions...I am constantly working on voicing especially measures 28 to 34 and 61 through 75.. Also working on improving the tempo or continuity.  Measures 10 through 19 are a challenge with both hands playing legato and a sort of melody...If anyone wants to hear someone play this that is great check out  Polina Osetinskaya's interpretation...I'm goin' keep practicing...

oops! I am sorry. I made the wrong assumption that we could either submit a video or choose to play live online! Clearly, I have missed the deadline for submission so I will read more carefully next time!

Here's hopefully (this is my first stab at a YouTube video)  my link for the Fantasia, op.49, warts and all.  I've been hearing a lot recently about how wrong notes supposedly don't kill anyone.  I thought I'd test that hypothesis here.  Very much a work in progress. - chuck

I'm still alive and that was incredible!!! What a natural sense of the music you have. You played with both intelligence and passion. Nice piano too!

Thank you for that comment Victoria. And you're one of the first test subjects as to the potential lethality of wrong notes.  I'm very happy to hear that they didn't kill you.  I am striving to play this piece with yet added intelligence (as well as accuracy) but it needs time.
