Kickoff for the March Mozart Challenge!

Event by Team

To open our March Mozart Challenge, I’ll be hosting a live kickoff session.

We’ll talk about what makes Mozart different — why balance, touch, and proportion matter so much — and how to approach your piece from the very first practice session.

We’ll look at:

• How to establish clean sound from day one
• Pedal choices (and when not to use it)
• Articulation: legato, non-legato, and clarity between the hands
• Thinking in phrases instead of notes

If you’re still deciding what to play, come for suggestions!
If you’ve already chosen your piece, bring your questions!

Hi - If I can make the timing work, I’ll offer the Cm Fantasia. I love this very operatic work…

I was really hoping the next challenge would be a Mozart one! I determined this January that I would finally start learning the 3rd movement of Sonata No. 11 in A Major, K 331 - Rondo Alla Turca. It's been a few weeks since I've looked at it, so I'm very excited for this challenge!

Boy, do I need this challenge!

I've had K310 on my bucket list ever since I joined Tonebase.

It's now or never, right?   Going to start diving in TONIGHT.

I learned a few Mozart sonatas a while ago but have not continued to play them and am quite out of practice, so I am taking the opportunity to add more Mozart to my repertoire.

I will play the first movement of the Sonata KV 282 in Es-flat major. Unfortunately, I never have that much time, as I also join TB with my main instrument, the cello 🥰

My favorite Mozart sonata. I dream to play it someday.... on a Bechstein D282.

The first movement isn't that difficult, I'm sure you can do it!

🤣Are you sure about that? Mozart is so difficult! For everybody. Maybe I will learn from you.😄

I watched your piano channel. It doesn't sound like you can't play Mozart. I think it starts with you no longer viewing it as difficult. Thinking in terms of "it's difficult" is something you can hear in the music.

For me, the first movement is difficult.

It's especially difficult if you don't want to drown it in pedal, which is the usual trap that beginners fall into.

Always learn Mozart without the pedal at first, and incorporate the pedal later.

      That’s my approach in general.

I will play either the first movement of Sonata no. 7 in C major, the first movement of Sonata no. 11 in A major, or the third movement of Sonata no. 17 in B-flat/B major. I can't decide!

It’s quite adventurous, but my idea for this challenge is to learn something with an orchestra. I picked the slow part from K467 in c minor. The solo is not difficult to read, but will require a lot of work from me to play. Needless to say, I will be challenged on different aspects in my current “state of the art”. I’ve found a nice play-along with the BBC symphony orchestra, so it will be fun once the “basics” are enjoyable.
