2024 Tonebase Piano Camp Questions

It's really exciting that the team is hosting the inaugural 2024 tonebase Piano Camp at Adamant Music School in August. Thank you for organizing what, I trust, will be a fantastic experience! If we have questions about the camp, may we ask them here?

  • Hi mel Thank you for your questions!

Currently family/friends can stay onsite only if sharing a room with the main participant. We currently have a large number of signups and want to make sure that everyone coming for the lessons/masterclasses has their own private room!

The daily rate for "auditing" the camp and simply observing the activities + receiving the 3 meals a day plus other amenities is $150/day.

Indeed if the camp is not able to continue due to a flood or other reasons, we would refund the participants.

Dominic Cheli hi Dominic.  My wife and I would like to attend.  I am a member.  Could we both attend and have a room with private bathroom and shower?  For her to attend and participate, should I enroll her as a member also?

We are interested in the one week option.
      thanks

I am interested in this, but is it really worth it for a late beginner (been taking lessons for about 13 months now)?
I would love to hear from people other than those motivated to say "Yes, of course!"

    • Jason Hi Jason!

I agree with what Mel says. One of the possible benefits of this camp is being able to observe masterclasses, take part in workshops, and also join open-discussions on music and more. Being an "advanced pianist" is not necessary to speak and share ideas/thoughts about different topics.

With Private Lessons, I would say that some teachers, like myself, are well-suited to Beginning students, making sure that they are setup with correct foundations, mapping out future practice plans, repertoire goal paths and much more.

I would be curious to hear what your goals might be in the near future (let's say, the next 12 months?)

      Dominic Cheli

Masterclasses are not something I even knew were a thing.  I'll look into it!

As far as goals,  I don't really have short-term goals, so all I can really sayv is getting closer to being competent, which means things like true finger independence, not having to think about everything with each new piece (such as taking 10-30 seconds to figure out the key, chords, and so on), not struggling with every jump or ornament, etc.

I would also really love to be able to improvise to some degree. Ultimately, I want to play what I hear in my mind.

How are students matched with faculty members for private lessons? Will every student have at least one lesson with their first-choice faculty member?

    • mel It is extremely likely that each student will have at least one lesson with first-choice faculty as there are many options for lessons. We will do our best to accommodate everyone!

Must every student perform? (Can we elect not to be recorded?)

    • mel Hi Mel! No pressure at all to perform.

      Masterclasses are optional!

You can also just play in your private lessons if that is most comfortable.

You are welcome to attend and observe masterclasses and participate in discussions if you like!

Nothing at this camp is mandatory activity-wise.

Recording is optional and most definitely private across the board. (if something is asked to be recorded, it is only provided to the select participant as an archival recording that they can do with as they please.)

I would be very happy to participate in an online version of the campus: private lessons via zoom and masterclasses 🫵 think about it! Dominic Cheli

    Ciao! 🌞😎✌🏻

    • Letizia Great idea! This could be something that happens at a different time of year. Perhaps during the fall or winter. I will try and plan something!

Dominic Cheli ... and this summer you could do a mixed mode, opening meetings on Zoom during the masterclasses and doing private lessons on Zoom, for those who pay an extra fee! 😉 So that the poor living in the rest of the world don't miss the chance to study with Seymour Bernstein and other super pianists! 😁 more money 🤑 for you, more training for us! 🫵 think about it!

      Ciao!🌞😎✌🏻

I’m so excited tonebase is organizing this camp and very interested, but a little unsure about my summer schedule. What’s the deadline to decide attending 5 days or 10 days? Also, what’s the estimated number of participants?

    • Jacqueline Hello! We are expecting somewhere between 25-30 participants per session (some people will choose to stay for 10 days, and roll over into the 2nd session).

Right now the deadline to notify us is May 1st, but please don't hesitate, since we are already nearing capacity! We do give priority acceptance to 10-day session signups.

Let me know if you have other questions!

  • Hello Dominic. I hope you can do a blog of the summer camp and post it on Tonebase at the end. I can't come this year, but it is something I will consider for the future.

Hello Dominic ;  We have some questions for you here .  Can you help us to clarify these concerns before we can make the decision pls ? First,  where is the music camp located in united states .  We are from Toronto , Ontario  .  Secondly,  Can i bring a family member along with me to this camp .  My family member won't attend the summer camp but will live with me in a same room and enjoy this trip if it is possible ?

    • Yolanda Hello Yolanda,

The music camp is located at:

Adamant Music School (1216 Haggett Road, Adamant, Vermont 05640)

You can bring a family member to stay with you at the camp. They can stay with you, and receive 3 meals a day, full room and board, and also attend any/all activities or enjoy the beautiful Vermont nature. The cost for the extra family member is $150/day on top of your camp membership.

We recommend flying into Burlington airport, or it is also possible to drive to the School if you wish!

We offer pickup and drop off to the airport.

Let me know if you have other questions!

  • I too am uncertain if I will have enough time to attend all ten days. If I sign up for the full camp but need to make a choice for a five day option, do I move back to the wait list or lose my spot completely?

    • Wenona McCormick I see that you made your deposit! You won't entirely lose your spot, but the sooner you let us know what option you decide, the more time we would have to place you in your preference!
