J.S. Bach - 2 part inventions group

Hello everyone! I've been thinking about deepening my J.S Bach skills from the ground up, and will start with the 2-part inventions. Does anyone want to join? The idea is to start a practice diary dedicated to the 2-parts inventions. My goal is to get threw all of them, but you can of course practice how many you want! It's nice to have a time limit just to be accountable, so I'm thinking 2 months. That will be 18. july - 18 september. One or two updates a week would be great to stay in the flow. Who's in? :) PS: If you're on vacation and want to join at a later date, is absolutely fine! (PS: I've played the first one a little bit, but the others will be new to me)

Great to be part of this Bach adventure. My plan is simple: I will just start with the first one and see how far I will get (without being too much of a perfectionist) :) and I will also be away for two weeks without a piano in t he middle of August. So if I’m allowed I would like to add a couple of weeks in September. Will we upload here or in the diary?

Andrea Buckland Great, Andrea! I have intended the Diary-thread for video-uploads. PS: The journey goes on until September 24.! But of course, one can always submit videos after that date too. It’s just a general guideline :)

Good afternoon, PianoFriends!  Started the lovely Invention in d minor on Saturday after watching Magdalena's lesson.  I found some of the fingering tricky, so I wrote it out and can share it if anyone is interested.  I have decided to try to start memorizing pieces, so let's see if I can do that for the next video! Sindre Skarelven has inspired me to try...

Gail Starr Bravo! Love the clarity and tempo! FYI- I think Sindre has a spot on the practice diary for these posts.

Gail Starr so good! I'm playing hands separately and can't play this clear :) I started working on No. 1 but switched to this one as I like it much better, the long trills are killing me, specially the LH.

Wonderful! Love how you stay away from the pedal… with the tempo and the lovely trills, this sounds nice and crisp. Speaking of fingerings, I think in general it would be a great idea for people to share their fingerings. It’s great to see the choices people make. I still prefer 5 —> 3 in the first invention.

    Hi everyone,

I have really enjoyed listening to all the recordings so far. There’s much going on in these short pieces. So here is the first one in C major.

Angela Fogg Wonderful playing, Angela! So delicate and appropriate touch for this music.
PS: If you want to, you can also re-post this in our group-journey thread in the Practice Diary section were we have most of our recordings :)

Thank you for your supportive comments. Here’s another one. I love the falling interval at the beginning of the second bar from Bb to C#. After the scale in the first bar it is not what you expect. Very dark…
