Zak in A Flat Major Hi again, I do care about getting either the Urtext editions, which are supposedly based on original sources and should therefore be the most faithful to the composer's wishes, or annotated/study editions, which are usually issued by highly regarded artists. For instance, I have those Chopin Editions from Real Musical with Paderewski for the Scherzos, Ballades and Impromptus, and I also have an Urtext edition of the Études. However, I once got a score annotated by Alfred Cortot for some scattered pieces (Barcarolle, Polonaise-Fantasie, etc.), and I love it, and then realised that he published several other study scores for works by Chopin, Schumann, Schubert, etc. You can find most of them in the IMSLP:

Incidentally, the Scherzos are not on this list, but you can find them available for download on other sites or forums, such as this one:

The Cortot edition usually provides later (more recent) versions of some works by the composer himself, at least with Chopin. One notable case is with the Fantasie Impromptu op. 66, of which you will find two significantly different versions published and performed all over...

What's more, you actually can listen to Cortot playing, according to his annotations, most of the works for which he published these study editions. For a more modern, yet faithful rendition, with lovely organic tempos, consistent technical execution and utmost clarity (you can listen to every grace note), my personal favourite is Claudio Arrau. But that's me!
