Alherne’s Practice Diary

Hello fellow pianists. I am currently attempting to learn the Chopin f minor ballade. I am still in the note learning stage and trying to get to a stage where I can play it slowly but fluently. I’ve pretty much learnt all the notes except for the coda. I’m finding this piece to be quite a challenge but at the same time enjoying the learning process.
‘I heard this performed at a concert when I was about 18 (50 years ago) I have only manage to work up the courage to attempt it now.
I don’t have a teacher so I rely on available tutorials ( very good one on the Tonebase platform).

Any advice or comments would be welcome.

  • That's very inspiring. Best of luck to you! I agree, there's lots of good videos on Tonebase. I have an account with Josh Wright's Pro-Practice program. I rarely use it since I got a teacher, but I checked and he does have an 80 minute tutorial on the f minor ballade. Not sure if you could pay for a month's subscription to get access. He's got a teaser video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yje0neCO2l0.
