What do you, Dominic, and Hyejin Kim think are the best ways to learn jazz influences for classical pianists? Listening? Watching? Playing? Studying scores? All of the above? As Schulhoff said, as you pointed out, Dominic, go to jazz clubs to hear great music.

I used to think jazz sounded like people talking at the same time. It would be a bit confusing for me. Then I read What Jazz Is: An Insider's Guide to Understanding and Listening to Jazz by Jonny King. It was so insightful. It expanded my understanding of Jazz significantly! And thus my appreciation for it, too.

I recall a live performance I attended by Herbie Hancock a decade ago when he announced his formation of International Jazz Day - this year it was April 30.

Which raises the question: When is International Classical Music Day? There is International Music Day: October 1; World Day of Music: June 21.

September is Classical Music Month! :D

March 29 - Piano Day - for the 88th Day of the Year to honor 88 keys! (From WFMT radio)

    April is Jazz Appreciation Month.
