Hello everyone I am David from Madagascar and now living in Iceland. I have wanted to participate in the community forums but being not really sure how or with which question I found this topic to start with. I joined Tonebase after watching several free videos featuring Mr Ben Laude and the great teachers participating in this project. I live in a remote valley of Iceland but there is a music school nearby where my sons and I attend to. However, it is not comparable with the material that can be found on this platform and I must say that I really enjoy the content. Having access to such education is fantastic for me who has lacked this type of insight and support in my youth when maybe I had a chance to make something with music. However I hope to be able to share this education with my sons. My eldest plays the piano and his young brother is on the violin. We hope for a spring sonata someday or any duo !

But to make it short I have been playing since I was 8 y.old with lots of void and miss. Now I am an avid fly fisherman who plays the piano during winter and when I have breaks through the fishing season. 
I have always favoured JS Bach works, Mozart and Beethoven’s sonatas. But I really like to wander out of the “big classics” with Debussy, Sibelius, Grieg, Field and others. 
 

For food I really enjoy raw fish and rice dishes !!

I am Rolf Rencken from South Africa. Have a good braai with “braaibroodjies” and steak is my favourite food! 
 

I am busy working on Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata”. I look forward to picking up some Grieg, Chopin and Liszt in the near future. 
 

I studied Organ performance and Piano as a 2nd instrument. However, I have not played/practiced regularly in the last 6 years. Having not had the greatest teachers. I hated playing piano, until I realised that I can play what I want and what I enjoy. I don’t need someone to dictate to me what I should work on. 

I have ordered a new Shigeru Kawai which was completed yesterday, and I am waiting for it to be shipped to me. I am very excited to have a place where I can hopefully get the education I need to practice properly and give me insight into the music I want to play. 

Hello everybody!

My name is Kai, I am from beautiful Munich in Germany. My favorite food from here? I'd say Schweinsbraten mit Knödel und Dunkelbiersoße. Impossible to explain. Just google it or try it next time you visit the Alps or the Oktoberfest;))

Currently I am working more deeply on several pieces, among them: Chopin's Ocean Etude op. 25 no. 12, Rachmaninov's Moments Musicaux, Beethoven's Sonata 1 in f minor and let me not forget to mention this little gem that I just found: L'Egyptienne by Jean-Philippe Rameau. I first heard it on Youtube absolutely perfectly played by a very young Alexandra Dovgan. Such a mature interpretation at such a young age - wonderful.

I am here with you now because both as a teacher and as a life long student of music I just want to grow & learn as much as possible on the piano so that I can express life itself musically as clear and deeply as possible so I am looking very much forward to start this journey here.

Hello Everyone! Richelle from the Philippines… Looking forward to learning from the Tonebase website. 

Hi all! I'm excited to be part of the tonebase community! Here's a bit about myself: 

I currently live in Saint Louis, Missouri, and while Dominic is right that barbecue is top notch here, my sweet spot with food here is definitely gooey butter cake! I try not to have too much for my health's sake, but man is it delicious!

Overall I am preparing for the RCM Level 10 exam, so I have some pieces for the exam repertoire I'm improving: Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata, Schubert's Impromptu 90.3; and pieces I'm learning are: Bach's Prelude & Fugue in G Major BWV 884; Rachmaninov's Prelude 3.2, and Dett's Dance (In the Bottoms). I am also improving a few different Chopin waltzes and Beethoven's Appassionata (probably my favorite piano piece of all time?). I do try to keep my focus but I wander off by reviewing or learning new pieces too! :D

I would love to meet like-minded piano folks and chat about all things piano. I'm very excited to get to the nitty-gritty technical details of these pieces! Very nice to meet all of you!

I'm excited to join the community of Tonebase! I took lessons starting in 3rd grade up until 2018 and have kind of fallen off the wagon these past few years. I'm looking forward to expanding my technique and repertoire and also learning to improvise in a more competent manner.

I am from the northwest of the US and enjoy local summertime berries.

I am coming to the piano a bit later in life, now that I have the opportunity and time. I hope to build on the year or two of keyboard lessons I took in college. I have some of the music I started playing from way back then, hope to regain the ability to enjoy those pieces, and continue on to more advanced music. Formerly, I had progressed to a point where I could enjoy playing and performing several of the technically more accessible Chopin preludes, beginner-friendly Bach pieces, and several of the “albums for the young” works. I am afraid to say that in the ensuing decades away from piano, I have lost the reading facility and hand independence I had just begun to achieve during those adult lessons in college.

 I am hoping that the lessons on ToneBase will serve as a basis for self-motivated piano and music education. 
My question for this general forum is whether ToneBase’s Piano materials and community are at an appropriate level for such a novice pianist?

• I'm from Belgium, and my favorite food from here is the well known "boulet frites", some kind of pellets made of meat with French fries !
• I'm currently working the Chopin first' ballade... since a few years because it's my favorite piano piece and it will follow me all my life, it will perpetually grow with me. I studied in Conservatory of Liege and i''m now a piano teacher in a music school academy here in Liege. I'm also Working on Bach prelude and fugue BWV 853, on Scriabin's etude opus 2 n1 and on Chopin's Etude opus 25 n11 (what a big one...!) 
• I think as a musician that we never stop learning, and tone base is a platform allowing us to continue learning, with all those big names sharing their advices about master pieces. Also, it will be a pleasure to meet new musicians.

I come from Poland, but currently live in Sweden. I like pierogi (dumplings). Not many Polish dishes are vegetarian so the Polish diet is not my thing. I love all Italian dishes.

• What are you currently working on?

Bach - Partita no 6, Grieg - Sonata op 7, Ravel - Tombeau de Couperin

It's a perfect recital program: everything is tied by E minor key. I both start and end with a Toccata. I both start and end with a suite. All the pieces come from different periods, although classical period is missing. I would fill it in with Haydn Sonata in E minor, but we will see if I will have time to add it. I hope to record my recital in two months.

• What are you hoping to get out of this community? 

To encourage and be encouraged. Feedback and learnings. And simply share the passion with passionate people.

• Where are you from and what's your favorite food from there?

I'm from a little town called Fleetwood, just outside Blackpool, in the North West of England. As a true northerner it has to be Fish and Chips with some Apple Pie and Custard for desert.

• What are you currently working on? 

I am an organist, pianist and electronic music. The main focus is the Advent and Christmas programme for my church choir. On the side I am working through Bach's 48 Prelude and Fugues.

• What are you hoping to get out of this community? 

I would like to improve my technique at the keyboard as I know it needs brushing up. Also it would be good to get pointers from respected teachers and pedagogues in the piano field.

  Hi, my name is Jovan, i am from and currently reside in Miami, Florida. I can't say I have a singular favorite food but one of my favorites are steak sandwiches. I'm currently working on one of Bach's Inventions, the first in C and also learning various exercises like the Hanon ones and Czerny's school of velocity. I'm hoping to become more immersed in the tradition of classical piano pedagogy and learn of the various approaches and techniques and just grow as a piano player in general while exploring different genres and maybe one day be versatile enough in my playing to perform at different functions (weddings, restaurants, gatherings etc.). In addition, I'd like to provide and receive support from the community. Thanks for reading!

-Hello, I am Charlotte, born and raised in Hong Kong but have been living in California for many years. I love afternoon English tea with pastries or cookies. 

- I learned piano since I was seven. My teacher was a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and she taught me a Bach piece every week for eight years. So I still love Bach and play the well-Tempered Clavier almost everyday.  I just joined tonebase recently and have been practicing the courses I am studying, such as Ravel's Sonatine, some Chopin Etudes and Schubert's sonata D664

- I want to go back to the pieces I learned in my youth, review them and took it to "performance" level. I want to keep exploring piano literature and musical ideas. I am very grateful for all your leadership and this community of learners.
