Welcome to the tonebase Piano Community!
Hey everyone - this is Dominic from tonebase !
As the lead of tonebase PIANO it's such a pleasure to welcome you to the tonebase community. We would love to get to know you! Please introduce yourself in a post below with the following format:
- Where are you from and what's your favorite food from there? ;)
- What are you currently working on?
- What are you hoping to get out of this community?
I'll go first:
- I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and you better believe that I love my barbecue! It is hard to pick my favorite food between ribs, brisket, or a beautiful grilled steak, but if I have to decide...nothing beats a juicy, fall-off-the-bone rack of baby back ribs!
- Currently working on some old favorites of mine by Carl Vine (Piano Sonata No.1), Beethoven (Piano Concerto No.4) and Scriabin (Fantasy op.28) but also adding some great repertoire by H. Leslie Adams (Etude in A-flat minor Book 2), Laura Kaminsky (Alluvion), and Clara Schumann (Romanze in A minor Op.21 no.1)!
- I am hoping to getting to know and helping all of you achieve your musical and artistic goals. Let's have some fun and get to work!
Now over to you (after some participation from our tonebase team members!)

Hi everyone. This is Ziyin from Malaysia. I am an adult beginner currently in my second month of learning the piano in my local studio.
I am currently finishing the first book of Alfred Adult Piano Course and now working on Pachelbel's Canon (made into C)..
I am not sure is this a suitable platform for a total beginner like me (I just joined tonebase today) but I wish to expand my horizons and this platform definitely opens up opportunities for me to expose myself with the insights of many world class piano masters.
Oh talking about food. My favourite food is Nasi Lemak (coconut rice) a local classic breakfast in Malaysia. Comprising of rice cooked with coconut milk and spices, topped with crispy anchovies and egg. :)

Thanks for kicking this off Dominic Cheli.
- I was just introduced to Tonebase by Ghassan Shehadeh and the timing was perfect as I just retired and have great expectations of getting back to the piano.
- I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, went to school (non-music degrees) in Boston, and have lived most of my adult life in Chicago and Ann Arbor, MI.
- Currently working on some old pieces (back when I was taking lessons and practicing seriously). Bach Italian Concerto and French Suites, Beethoven (early Sonatas and Waldstein) and miscellaneous Brahms pieces.
- I am looking forward to getting more regular in practice discipline and bringing some pieces to performance level. So glad to discover this community.

I'm Harriet, originally from Washington, DC, and now live in a nearby suburb. Food-wise there's a bit of everything here, but when I go out to eat I like to get something I wouldn't make at home, like falafel or sushi or Ethiopian food.
At the moment, I'm working my way through the Well-Tempered Clavier. I started this in April 2021 and intended to spend a week or two on each prelude and fugue, enough to get familiar with them and play through them fluently at least, but have been hovering on the E major set (from Book 1) for the past month. I also have been learning Chopin Ballade No. 3. A couple of pieces on the back burners: Chopin Ballade No. 1, the slow movement (The Alcotts) of the Ives Sonata No. 2, and Rachmaninoff Etude-Tableau in G minor Op. 33 No. 8, along with a multiyear endeavor, learning the Goldberg Variations, with which I've had many frustrations and setbacks.
What am I hoping to get out of tonebase? I suppose inspiration and connection with other piano people. I've been feeling unhappy about my playing and how I learn music for some time and would like to move away from that mindset. This forum and the possibilities for sharing performances and getting feedback are appealing.

Hello All-
This is Vidhya. I grew up in NC, but have lived in northern Virginia for many years. My favorite food in NC was my mom’s home cooking, but loved the local peaches and salty boiled peanuts too!
I am currently working on Mozart’s sonata 331 (theme/variations) and Vladimir Askenazy’s transcription of Rachmaninoff’s Zdes Khorosho. I am also working on polishing up Schumann-Liszt’s Widmung. I got the confidence to try out Widmung thanks to some of the tonebase live events.
I love all the great (constantly growing) content on tonebase- repertoire, technique, interviews. The live events, feedback and community are great. I am thankful to have such a great resource to supplement my interest in piano.
