The one that I bought many, many years ago is still available on Amazon. The brand is Wittner. When I brought it, it was made in W. Germany (!) It's still made in Germany, according to Amazon. I think this is the brand I used when I was young. I like the sound of its tick, tock...

I love my Dr Beat: https://a.co/d/gy5fIf7. I had bought it for my son, a cellist, > 20 years ago.
My teacher doesn't think I need such a fancy metronome, but I especially like how it shouts out the polyrhythm for duples vs triples. Yes, there is actually a voice that say "one-ti-and-ta" or you can also just have the beats, either with a stronger down beat or not.
It also has the tap function which I found useful when my chamber music group had to figure out at what tempo we had to practice.
Mine can do up to 8 programs, so if I am learning several pieces, I can save the meters and tempi for each piece.

Wittner Taktel Picolo is the one I鈥檝e used forever. Strong sound.

Christopher Macy I was watching Nahre Sol's channel, she recommends Wittner too. The supermini model is even more portable if you go from practice room to practice room. -
Lc I don鈥檛 know the Supermini. I鈥檝e had my old one for so long, I鈥檝 never bothered looking into newer models. Thank you, I will look at it.

I love my Taktel Mini. In fact, I even splurged for the all-wood mini a few years ago and find the tone even more satisfying than the cheaper metal and plastic model. It looks nice too! I think I bought it via eBay for under $90.

Randi I agree, I also don't like using my phone, I prefer to put my phone in a different room so I don't get distracted. Instead of a mechanical metronome, I use a standalone electronic, Wittner MT-50 quartz metronome, very inexpensive, super easy to use, easy to bring with you. It was a bit too loud for me so I put a piece of tape over the sound hole. Works well!
