Peter Golemme Thank you for watching. I wanted to bring out my imagination for the wild rose, dainty and sweet. I should have placed microphone closer to piano. Anyway this is my first time posting to Tonebase digital concert 🎵

Here is my submission of Kempff''s transcription of Bach's Flute Sonata II. Siciliano. It was hard to keep the legato and staccato as written while maintaining the melodic line, so it was just  easier to play legato through most of it. I have been so inspired by Lang Lang's and Yun Chang Lim's versions. I would have wanted to try playing live for the first time with this as I'm in the right time zone this time,  but alas wiĺl be traveling and have no n access to a piano.

Ching Lee Goh Very beautiful Ching Lee. Kempf has done us pianists a great service with this transcription, bringing this ensemble piece into the piano repertoire. The baroque original is so lovely and then Kempf transforms it into a moving Romantic meditation.

  • I’m beginning to learn basic ensemble playing, partnering with my friend Martha who plays the flute. So, my submission for this recital is a recording of our duet. It‘s the second movement from Bach’s Flute Sonata in E-Flat Major (BWV 1031), also called the Siciliano. (Another friend recorded this for us on an iPhone, just using the video setting.)

I’d frankly been hesitating to join the recital this time, after learning that Ching Lee Goh would be performing Kempff‘s arrangement of the same Siciliano. But I’m hoping some may find interesting the contrast between the original flute sonata (played here with piano in place of harpsichord) and Kempff‘s more complex, solo piano arrangement. (The beautiful Kempff arrangement is high on my bucket list, but it‘s still way beyond my ability to play!)

    • Libby Craig A real treat to hear this duet and a polished performance! So nice too see this performed on stage! I encourage you to try the Kempff version as more than half the ‘battle’ is already won by playing the accompaniment!
