ABOUT TONEBASE COMMUNITY CONCERTS:

These events are NOT live-streamed OR recorded, but are private zoom meetings where tonebase members can share their hard work and perform for each other!

These concerts can be played LIVE, or if you can't attend, you can submit a recording!

This is a GENEROUS and SUPPORTIVE space.

Performing is one of the best ways to push yourself, and really evaluate the work/progress you have made!

Repertoire is open to any piece!

Memorization is NOT required.

You can play select movements, or even sections of pieces! No need to perform a complete work!

Playing the piano is fun, but sharing your music with others is one of life's great joys. Join in on the fun and cheer each other on!

FOR OPTIMIZING YOUR ZOOM SETTINGS PLEASE SEE THE SHORT VIDEOS BELOW!

Because we use zoom for these concerts, it is important to have the best audio and visual settings available!

  • Signing up to perform Schumann’s Melodie, from the Album for the Young. Already pretty terrified - this cohort at ToneBase is a daunting place for a neophyte 😬

Rashmi Lahiri my son plays regularly, and I played for the first time a couple of months ago. Dominic usually posts performance order a day or two in advance. He’s accommodating if you need to play nearer the beginning or the end.

Rashmi Lahiri I speak for myself but I believe everyone else on this thread that each one of us feels the frustration of our own limitations in trying to render the ideal conception of a piece that we have in our minds.  Whereever you are in your journey, as Gail says, all of us have been there and know all too well the challenges and difficulties involved. I am grateful for the many accomplished pianists who participate and show us what is possible, as much as I appreciate the offerings of those who must struggle as much as or even more than I to get through a particular piece. I learn something from each such performance and hear many new and wonderful things about the pieces themselves when filtered through our individual personalites, regardless of level of technical ability! By all means, please share your journey with us.

I would like to play Philip Glass Etude #6. I play the "Yuja Wang" version, which skips a lot of the repeats - much easier for me to play. It will be about 4 minutes and a lot of notes!

  • Hi - I missed the May concert and can't seem to find the recording of it on TB. Could someone tell me whether my recording for Poulenc Novelette in C was picked by @Dominic

If so, i would like to contribute a little new piece I'm learning - William Kempf's transcription of the Bach Flute sonata Siciliano.

    • Ching Lee Goh your recording was played and what a lovely performance :) I would very much love to hear your Siciliano - definitely on my bucket list.

I understand that the community concert is not recorded to provide a safe space for those who wish to play live.

    • Priya Viseskul many thanks for letting me know!  Yes  Siciliano is incredibly beautiful and I hope to give decent justice to this little piece.

    • Vidhya Bashyam Oh I missed that! Would have loved to listen to yours too. I don ‘t play much original Bach but I’m now discovering (late in the day!) these transcription gems!

    • Ching Lee Goh Both the Poulenc and the Kempff transcription of the Siciliano are on my bucket list. Looking forward to hearing your performance of the Kempff!

    • Libby Craig thanks.  Both are different yet alike in the delicacy of the voicing which I find the most challenging to achieve

I sign up to play the first movement of Beethoven‘s Pathétique. It is a pathetic 17 years in the making (last thing I played before quitting lessons). Unless I find a way to transmit from my silent system, I will probably only submit a recording, though,  I don‘t want to disturb my neighbours

Gail Starr Thank you, Gail! Being sloppy with fingering comes back to bite you even after 17 years, but I am hopeful to figure it out by then.

    • Nadja hey Nadja! Where are you located? Wondering about your time zone because trying to get my piano to be the audio input source on a zoom is something I would also love to figure out so if you want we could set a time to hop on my zoom and we can play around with that option and see if we can get it to work. Let me know I’d be happy to try 😎

Andrea LeVan so sorry, I just saw this, I have to change my notification setting. How is your recovery, I hope you can participate. Not sure whether I will perform live but if so we can. Im CET.

    • Nadja hi Nadja! Hey so I assume CET means eastern time zone so are you on the east coast? I am still planning to play live for the June recital I got my stitches out yesterday and have been cleared to play. I will likely just use the acoustic side of this K300  Aures2 piano that I have but I’m still really interested in figuring out if there is a way to use the USB to host connection and have that be a direct audio input for a zoom call or other app. So I’m happy to do a zoom call together to just play around with this and see if we can get it to work. I could do it sometime Saturday afternoon or Monday anytime after 3:00 central time (I’m in Missouri). Let me know if a time works and I can send you a zoom invite 👍
