  • Dominic Cheli I would love to play the third movement - Choral et variations - from the Piano Sonata Op. 1 by Henri Dutilleux, but it's kind of long - a typical performance lasts 11 minutes. If that's too much, I completely understand and will pick a shorter piece.

UPDATE: Sorry, friends - won't make it today, neither for playing nor just attending. I have a studio recital and a church recital next week coming up and a week of international masterclasses next month, so my panic mode is telling me that I need to be practicing instead of performing or listening. Enjoy each other's music, everyone! 🙂

    • I will tentatively put John Ireland's Menuet from Downland Suite. Hopefully I can get it into shape and decent tempo by then.

    • Alexander Weymann I do hope so!
I’m looking forward to hear your Dutilleux! I heard a “cello concerto” by him a few months ago, Tout un monde lointain, and that’s all I know of him so far!

    • Sindre Skarelven I think I have read the title of that piece but I have never heard it. I'll look for it on YouTube! He hasn't written much for the piano, but that sonata is really special.

    • Gail Starr thanks, well, right now I haven't played it in a month time because of busy time with work and other concerts, so a lot of work needs to be done to bring this back! I'm looking forward to start working on this ballad again :)

Alexander Weymann Lol same 😅 I started working on it almost a year ago but abandoned it after hitting a wall on the 3rd movement fugues. Hoping this will be the impetus to revisit the entire sonata.
