I'm at the beginning of my piano journey, so I don't really have any "unfinished" pieces. But before I had to take a piano-break, I had just learned the G-Major Minuet in the Anna Magdalena Notebook. I'd like to use this challenge to learn how to play the repeats in a non-boring fashion. 馃檪

Today I played through the G-Major Minuet to be sure I remembered it (I did). Now to decide how to play the repeats. I think I'll play no ornaments first time and add ornaments on the repeat. If that goes well, I'll see what else I can do. I'll record on Monday, most likely. My teacher just gave my a new piece, and we've already been working on the g minor minuet just after the G Major one, so I'll be playing lots of music over the next few weeks! I look forward to being inspired by everyone's submissions.

  • Hi all,

I鈥檓 glad to join a tonebase community challenge after a few months away from the piano due to other commitments.

A piece I would like to finish is Chopin鈥檚 Grande Valse Brilliante Op.18.

I have made attempts at learning parts of it before but never managed to get it together. I think this challenge will hopefully help me to get it to a playable state. I would estimate I am starting from about 30% but the piece has its challenges, especially trying to make it sound stylish!

I hope to post an initial update of the opening pages in the next few days.

    • Derek McConville how wonderful! That piece was on the Chopin/Rubinstein album my parents gave me as one of my very first LPs; I must have been 12 or so. I listened to it countless times as a teenager - and now I somehow feel as if it just isn't performed as often anymore. Can't wait to hear you play it!

  • I simply can't believe the thrilling lineup of pieces folks have chosen for this challenge (and we're just a couple of days into it, so there's probably even more to come)! What a month this is going to be... wow! 馃槃

As Alexander Weymann says, what a thrilling set of pieces in this unexpected challenge. I want to join this brave group.

Among others..., one of my "eternal unfinished business" is Chopin First Ballade op. 23. I know, I know... But nothing is lost by trying. A curiosity: I have read the date when I bought the score (August 7th 1982), no words.

My goal: make a video playing the entire piece (in the last week of the challenge, of course).

Let's go and good luck everyone!!

Oh, and maybe don't get too obsessed with it... 馃槈 I'm sure you are aware of this book, aren't you?

  • Before the Mazurka TWI that just took place, I scratched the surface of the first page of Rachmaninov Prelude in D-major Op 23 no 4, so that is very unfinished business!

Week 2 of Mazurka TWI I started the Op 59 no 1 (Chopin), and got threw the first section before I got under the weather.

Now I want to finish these two pieces!

Sindre Skarelven Can't wait to hear these!  I'm so in love with Op 59, that I will try to start #1 or #3 after I work on my Chopin Etude.
