Dominic, thank you for this very interesting Livestream! The teacher, Felip Pedrell, certainly had a profound impact on both composers. Such exciting music of these composers! And performed by Granados, Alicia de Larrocha  and Jiji, Ana and Pepe! Thank you to all!

I love the way you organize the information for us! And convey it with clarity and passion!

You mentioned the "elusive, silvery quality" that the guitar can convey. Yes, indeed.

You highlighted the importance of "listening" and "micro-rubati". That precision and granularity is what makes this so very interesting. I understand and hear what you are talking about when you say the guitar is never "thick" or "heavy" in playing this music...it always has "air". Yes!

That is fascinating to learn that these composers would have used the Arard piano that Dr. Mok so eloquently demonstrated/presented on a previous Livestream. I loved hearing Granados perform his own work! Lovely!

The Messiaen quote is so interesting to hear, too.

And, yes, I am one who would did not associate the guitar with the piano - until now!

Again, thank you! Thank you to everyone who attended and asked such good questions and provided valuable feedback!

  • You did not mention Padre Antonio Soler as one of the important Spanish composers. Am I incorrect to think that he is?

    • Gail Thiele absolutely he is! for this stream I was mainly talking about Albeniz and Granados. Need to give a stream on Soler at a future point!
