Planning for time away from your instrument!
For many of us entering the holiday season, we might find ourselves away from our instrument more often than not. What can we do during that time to remain musically engaged, and even make small amounts of progress? Join today's stream to find out!

Hi! Dominic Cheli
For my travels I bought a Carry-on Folding piano: an electronic keyboard that folds into four parts and can be carried in its bag. It has a charger and a sostenuto pedal.
However, the keyboard is not weighted, the keys do not have the same depth as a piano and are too short: I cannot play a full chord on the black keys because my hand comes off the keyboard.
My question is:
1) what can I play on this instrument while I am traveling, considering the limitations?
2) do you know of a better model of portable folding keyboard with a pedal?
Ciao!

Excellent lesson! You have the gift of conveying the underpinnings of the learning process. You're a type of musical philosopher it seems to me - the way you analyze music, the way you speak to alignment, self-awareness, efficiency, discovery, joy and the many other deeply meaningful aspects. I enjoyed learning about this immensely. There are always those finer points that I had not thought of. Listening to other performers, visualization, organizing music, musical analysis,(key signature, musical form, metronome tempo, fingering, etc.), pattern recognition. SO much preliminary work advances the piece significantly, and makes the learning much more efficient. Learning with those two different speeds was very interesting to learn, about, too. What a thrill it is to learn from a performing artist with so much experience, passion, skill and love for the music and for education. Clearly, you're devoted to life-long learning and discovery. Thank you, Dominic!
