Week 4 Thread: The Meaning in Music 🕴

Welcome to the Main Thread for the fourth week of "Mozart & Haydn - Music from the 18th Century" challenge!

Where is the meaning in a piece of music written in the 18th century for keyboard only? Is that music meaningless? Or was this type of music only composed for solely entertainment purposes?

Try to find the meaningful elements in the music you have studied this month

And… Post a clip of your beautiful performance!

Pick a piece from the suggested repertoire according to your level or share any piece written during the 18th century that you have been working on!

If you want to describe your process, feel free to use the following template.

  • Piece(s) you have been working on:
  • Things you found easy:

Happy sharing 😍

Andrea Buckland very nice, indeed! The main question for Week 4 was The Meaning go Music and your lovely sustained and intentional phrasing addresses that perfectly.

Andrea Buckland There is a tender, almost melancholy quality to this piece; a certain innocence; you have captured those qualities very well.  Thank you.  Don

My contribution for this 18th Century challenge (with mistakes, of course🙄). It's been a pleasure, as always.  Thank you very much Antonella for your attention and advice.

Juan Carlos Olite Wow! It sounds so much improved from the last time I listened to your recording. It is very elegant now.

And... the theme is nice and connected where it was supposed to be.

The phrasing and choice of dynamic and rallentando are very beautiful.

Congratulations on completing this challenge with this beautiful performance!

Monika Tusnady Thank you very much, Monika! I see you have returned from your summer trips. With the lid opened it sounds better of course, but it is too much sound for a small room..., nevertheless from now on I will make the videos with the lid opened🙂, every new piece for the community is the kind of occasion which deserves it 😂🎉😂

    Hi everyone,
My contribution this final week is the last movement (Allegretto) from K330 by Mozart which I have just about managed to play from memory.
I found it challenging to retain as much of the detail and bring out contrast when playing from memory and there are still passages which are not practiced enough.

It was really nice to work on however and i found it helped me to imagine the "Gallant" style discussed in the thread!

Derek McConville Beautiful! Congratulation on completing this month's challenge! It is surely not easy to memorize such a piece in one month and feel confident at all times. Long term memory needs that thing call "time." It sounds very elegant and "galant" :)

      Great job!
