The Sustain Pedal (right pedal) was still in development during the time of Schubert, in fact it functioned differently from our current modern day version. With musical examples, we take a look at how to use the pedal for greater musical effect in Schubert's beloved music!

    I feel like the Schiff performance allows this amazing piece to resemble lieder; a beautiful lyrical line with a very present and supportive accompaniment  that is a different instrument. From Op 90 I find no.1 and no.3 have the quality of lied and the Broadman performance really reveal this..to me
