I wonder if I should not play the op50. No2 mm 68 first beat top note (d flat) because of tie ?

(I am using the score which you have provided to tonebase.)

I wonder about ornaments on op50. No.2 the first beats of mm.11(bflat,c , bflat)15, 19.. If I try that with relexed fingers, I cannot make  clear sounds. If I played that with little stiff finger and wrist, it has better sounds. I wonder what is the right way to play the ornaments.I should not play with very relexed fingers?

I wonder how much rubato on Chopin music are appropriate or not. I wonder how to decide that.

One of my bad habit is dragging music especially when I play with humming the melody. I wonder how can I fix my habits.

I wonder how to decide the breathing point when you play?

Also I heard somebody advised to one piano player about  direction of music on Sunday. I wonder if you can explain the specific concept of direction on music and how to apply that on Chopin music.

      Appreciate it

Like others, I am very happy to have a session devoted to Chopin Mazurkas! Many questions, to start:

    - Recommendations/comments about editions are welcome.

    - Specifically about the Paderewski edition: are the tempo and pedal indications Chopin's or Paderewski's or someone else's?

    - Who grouped the Mazurkas into opus numbers? Is there any indication that Chopin thought of numbers within an opus as being related? Personal note: I don't know how authentic it is, but I like playing an entire opus together as a suite, that seems to present an organic dramatic arc.

    - The technical demands of the Mazurkas (at least the ones I've studied so far: op. 6, 7, 17, 24) are all accessible to intermediate pianists. Was this deliberate on Chopin's part? Were they perhaps intended as pedagogical pieces?

I'm not sure I'll be able to record something and upload by the 27th, will try.

    Thanks for putting this together!

    • Juan Carlos Olite Beautiful! So glad you are presenting this Mazurka. I learned it too so looking forward to hearing Jarred’s commentary. It is a lot more nuanced than it appears.

Andrea Buckland Vidhya Bashyam Thank you very much! I spend little time with it, but I wanted to participate in this interactive class with Jarred Dunn. I am not sure about many things (tempo, different character of sections...) so, I am very happy to be able to receive some kind of guidance.
