Hi everyone, here is my final upload for this challenge. There are still technical things which I need to iron out on this piece (I still need to figure out the 5 finger exercises which inspired this piece……!) but with the time I had this is the best version so far. It was nice to come back to Debussy for this challenge and it was very motivating despite there still being work to do at the end. Derek

Hi everyone! Here's my video of Images oubliées I. Lent, mélancolique et doux. It's been one of my favorites for years, and I'm so excited to finally have learned it!

It was fun learning a piece that was fairly within my technical abilities, but so far outside of my interpretation abilities. I really enjoyed experimenting so much with the sound and little details. I could spend many months refining all that, but I'm proud of how far I got.

What an interesting piece - it almost sounds more like Satie than Debussy. I may take this one on too. I loved your interpretation - especially since it makes me want to learn this pieces as well. Thank you.

Thanks to Dominic and Tonebase for such a warm and supportive community. I really enjoyed learning Voiles, a piece I've always wanted to play. I think one of the surprises I had was that this piece really feels great to play, it's so well-written pianistically. I honestly thought going in that it would be awkward and uncomfortable, with it primarily a whole-tone piece. It was the complete opposite, truly. There are still many things I'd like to work on, but again I appreciate this opportunity!

We both learned and uploaded Voiles around the same time! I had the same thoughts as you while learning it — it was a surprisingly enjoyable experience, definitely less awkward than expected. Well played, and well done for finishing it in such a compressed time frame!

And it was enjoyable to listen to as well! Your musicianship and love of music definitely comes through. I also loved seeing all those music scores - and I think I spied a cello case too. I just want to spend a day in that room LOL!

that room has heard a wide range of music over the past 30-something years 😄

I made it through approximately 80% of Voiles (from Book 1 of Debussy's Preludes), during the time of this challenge. Here's a recording of what I've managed so far, minus the last three lines of music which I haven't learned yet :D  It's been rewarding learning something unexpected because of this challenge, and I now understand much better the difference between whole tone and pentatonic scales!
