🎹 **tonebase returns to NYC!** Manhattan Piano Intensive
Hey everyone,
I hope you're all doing well! For those of you who may not know me yet, I'm Noah Alden Hardaway, longtime tonebase staff and Piano Events Director. We're excited about the upcoming tonebase Manhattan Piano Intensive, and whether you've signed up or are still figuring out your plans, I wanted to start this thread to answer any questions you might have!
- When? March 8th - March 17th
- Where? Opera America in the heart of Manhattan (plus special events at Yamaha Artist Studio and other premiere Manhattan locations!)
- Who? Pianists and music lovers of all ages and levels!
This 10-day event will feature:
- Private lessons
- Workshops
- Masterclasses
- Daily lunches with artist-faculty!
Some of the noteworthy workshops with special guests include:
• The one and only Marc-André Hamelin will lead a Masterclass Clinic, with a focus on tackling your most technically (or musically!) challenging passages and helping you overcome them! And afterwards, ask Marc anything you like in a special Q&A moderated by Ben Laude.
• Edna Golandsky and Robert Durso, two of the world's premiere gurus on technique and injury prevention (through the Taubman Approach) will be working with participants to unlock your full pianistic potential through private lessons and “Bring a question, Get a solution!” interactive clinics.
• Eastman School of Music professor Marina Lomazov will be presenting a remarkable “Practice Methods Bootcamp” that will supercharge your ability to learn pieces – speaking from personal experience from working with her, it makes a huge difference!
• Sara Davis Buechner will give a workshop on "The Trifecta of Expression! Voicing + Orchestration + Phrasing." This is a special opportunity to unlock colors that almost have been forgotten since the Golden Age of piano playing, resurrected by Sara's extraordinary piano playing – and now in yours too!
• After Nicolas Namoradze's awe-inspiring recital at our last intensive, we had to bring him on board as a faculty member. He'll be giving private lessons and will present the workshop “Mind Over Music: 10 Exercises for Mental Ease and Mastery," using his special interest in using neuroscience to reduce stress and stage fright, building healthy performance psychology through mindfulness and pre-performance routines!
• After some time away, we have a special one-time-only event with the iconic Ben Laude! His "How to Listen" workshop will help you use your ears to the fullest extent: how to get the most out of great recordings, concerts, and listening back to your own playing! He'll also be giving private lessons and moderating the Q&A with Marc-André Hamelin.
• Additionally, we have a must-see masterclass with all-time great virtuosos of 19th and 20th century music: Jerome Lowenthal and Ursula Oppens! More than just their positions (Juilliard and other major NYC institutions, 5 Grammy nominations), they are a direct link with some of the greatest pianists and composers in history, working directly with Alfred Cortot, William Kapell, Elliott Carter, and many other major figures.
Private Teaching from Dominic Cheli, Dr. Noah Hardaway, Sara Davis Buechner, Edna Golandsky, Robert Durso, Nicolas Namoradze, Ben Laude, Piotr Kozłowski, with guest artists Marc-André Hamelin, Jerome Lowenthal, and Ursula Oppens.
