Group-journey threw J.S. Bach - Two part inventions!

This thread is a group-thread dedicated to J.S. Bach Two part inventions. The point is that we can discover them and go deeper into them together, and motivate each other in the prosess of learning and practicing them.

Who is this for? This is for everyone who wants to join!
What's the goal? You define your own goal, with how much you want to learn. But try to commit to learn 1, 2, 3, or how many you like. Share your goal with the rest of us!

Why learn two part inventions? In Bach's own words (of course translated to english) "Honest method, by which the amateurs of the keyboard – especially, however, those desirous of learning – are shown a clear way not only (1) to learn to play cleanly in two parts, but also, after further progress, (2) to handle three obligate parts correctly and well; and along with this not only to obtain good inventions (ideas) but to develop the same well; above all, however, to achieve a cantabile style in playing and at the same time acquire a strong foretaste of composition."

    • Sindre Skarelven Thanks, Sindre! Vacation was great. We toured around Germany by train visiting friends and family in different places. Some tourism was also involved like visiting Liszt’s house in Weimar. AND I was able to spend  three very happy hours practicing Goldberg variations on a two-manual harpsichord in our friends’ house! Unfortunately they are not so so easy on that instrument either 😄. Glad to be back though. Missed my piano.

    • Andrea Buckland That's so nice! I have to keep in mind Liszt's house, if I ever manage to visit Germany. And what an amazing privilege it is to play the Goldberg variations on a harpsichord. I'm completely envious!  😄

    • Andrea Buckland Wow! That sounds like a wonderful trip! It's great see where these master composers/performers lived, and get a feel for their daily life. Makes the histories feel a little closer. Also, the harpsichord must have been fun! I hope to play one too!

Andrea Buckland Very beautifully played, Andrea! I think this one is difficult for me to get with that half a beat difference between hands, but this is in my to-learn list so I will try my best!

Sindre Skarelven Wow!  This is my favorite! And lovely rubato at the end.  I've worked on it also, so I'll try to record it tomorrow since we have a holiday in the USA.
