Group-journey threw J.S. Bach - Two and three part inventions!

This thread is a group-thread dedicated to J.S. Bach Two part inventions. The point is that we can discover them and go deeper into them together, and motivate each other in the prosess of learning and practicing them.

Who is this for? This is for everyone who wants to join!
What's the goal? You define your own goal, with how much you want to learn. But try to commit to learn 1, 2, 3, or how many you like. Share your goal with the rest of us!

Why learn two and three part inventions? In Bach's own words (of course translated to english) "Honest method, by which the amateurs of the keyboard – especially, however, those desirous of learning – are shown a clear way not only (1) to learn to play cleanly in two parts, but also, after further progress, (2) to handle three obligate parts correctly and well; and along with this not only to obtain good inventions (ideas) but to develop the same well; above all, however, to achieve a cantabile style in playing and at the same time acquire a strong foretaste of composition."

Juan Carlos Olite Aaaahahaha… 🤣 I can imagine (like Mahler’s twinkle twinkle in the minor mode!). Invention 9 is a beauty; I’d love to see what tempo you decide on. I personally like to play it slowly… I have heard some really fast versions too.

Parag Mehta I don't know on what tempo I will play it, I like slowly too, but not too much because there are long phrases and it is necessary to sing them properly...

Juan Carlos Olite Ooooh!  I LOVE your gentle ending...it's like a graceful sigh after an energetic walk.  (I've been learning the same Invention, but I am having trouble finding a good time to make a recording because my husband has gone back to work, and my piano is right outside his office.  So, I can practice on my digital keyboard but I don't like using it to make recordings.)

Lovely :) really enjoyed this. I looked into your other videos as well and really like the idea of the 40 pieces challenge, it's really inspiring.
I think I might adopt an easier and shorter challenge...

A little question, about the "days of wine and roses", how did you learn to add those lovely voices with the right hand below the melody during the head? Also really liked your improv... well done!

Melanie Sinn What a lovely job you have done on both of these!  I just worked on #8 and now you've inspired me to try #13 also!  We are thrilled you are part of the Tonebase village.
