  • Here is an excerpt of my practice at moderate speed (a bit under 50 per half note) of Schubert’s Impromptu Op 90 No 3.  I might slow everything down more as the next few pages have a lot of details (more left hand trills!) I need to improve on.

  • Hi everyone, as part of this challenge, I’m hoping to learn/perform Chopin’s Etude op10, no 12 (“Revolutionary”). While I have practiced elements of it before at slower tempo, I have never played the whole piece and would like to attempt it as part of this challenge. For the past few days I have worked with a moderate tempo of 1 crotchet / quarter note ~ 80 on the metronome. Key initial challenge is trying to improve control over the left hand… I will update in the next few days hopefully 🤞🏻 Derek

  • Here is my very moderate tempo version of Brahms Op.118 No.2. This is a slowish piece so I feel it has ended up very slow indeed. It was interesting to hear how I need to shape phrases and motifs more carefully or else they can become a bit turgid at this tempo. Looking forward to hearing how everyone has come this week, so many good week 1 recordings and nice repertoire choices.
