  • Hello Dominic,  On the score I have, Sechs Leichte Variationen, G-dur, Wo O 77, from Beethoven, there is no tempo rithing down on it. It's that words : Andante, quasi Allegretto.

Wich moderate tempo that is mean ?

When I listening some piano perform play those variations there is some who play it really fast and some not.

Personnaly I want to find my own tempo, but in that case with moderate tempo should I look for ?

Can you help me with that ?

    Any suggestions!

I don't want to play it to slow but either to fast !

    Thank You Dominic!

I am actully seek, cold, I will try to post a video this week!

I'll be working on the Menuet in G (Anna Magdalena Notebook, BWV Anh.114) for this challenge. My top speed (that I'm working toward) is about quarter note = 120; moderate speed = 100; slow speed = 80. I'll try to have a video posted toward the end of the week.

Here is a video of the Menuet at a moderate tempo. I followed the advice from the livestream this week, in which Steve Goss encouraged playing as if for performance without cheating - so I recorded with mistakes and all! I also watched a recording from about a month ago, and was heartened that I had could hear obvious improvement.

When I play at the slow tempo, I try to focus on keeping hands more still and not dropping my wrists. I still do a fair bit of slow practice since I'm a beginner-beginner! 馃檪

  • I'd like to work on the 3rd movement of Mozart's Sonata in C major, K309. The tempo marking is allegretto grazioso. I aim to practice at a tempo of 108 quavers as a medium tempo

    • Natalie Peh the top tempo I would like to aim for is 120 quavers

  • For "Un Sospiro," top tempo would be around 63 per quarter note. What I'm aiming for now is to be able to play it consistently at 40 per quarter note (it's getting there!); I'm hoping to work it up to a moderate tempo of about 50.

Thank you, Dominic Cheli  I would like to take the piece I started learning with Magdalena and bring that up to speed and performance level... Bach Invention #2 BWV 773.

Hands together at a slow pace, not moderate, but that's where i am at with this new piece... Still haven't figured out trills particularly bar 13... Sounds awful to me - there is a long way to go!!

Michelle R Thanks, Michelle. The trills need work, and more fluidity overall. I watched Boris Giltburg鈥檚 lessons on sound production yesterday and might experiment a bit with some of that to further differentiate the two voices, although my skill level is not great. But it鈥檚 always fun to experiment!
