    I had to work when this session was LIVE, so I am watching it now. I am enjoying it! I appreciate the way you highlighted Mozart and Thalberg on the score, and how they practiced trills. Fine distinction between thinking about trills and the fingers vs. trills and the wrist: rotation. Very interesting! Quite practical! First trill tip is fascinating...inverse way of viewing things! The granularity of this analysis/approach is wonderful!

    I hear the "simplicity, refinement and elegance" that you demonstrated in the measured trill. I get that! And now I am seeing the improvisatory trill, and its appropriate application.

     

    I like the way you highlighted this, Dominic: the trill can "invite the orchestra back in".  :D

     

    And, again, the camera angles are great to illustrate your points.

     

    A trill = a "shake". For real!

    "Rhythmic...changing in its vibrations...rhythmical impulses happening within the trill...circling entity that's alive...you want to have, particularly when its long...a searching quality...using these different speeds...bring out more drama and emotional content of the piece...when you've got slow trills...be more experimental and a bit more adventurous" - Beautiful!

  • Are there any special concerns/tips/recommendations for those of us who may be left-handed yet are required (by the score) to trill with the right hand--in my case, the least refined of the two hands?
