Re: From Fear to Flourish: Managing Performance Anxiety
I have many, many years of experience with stage-fright, probably the only characteristic I can claim to share with Vladimir Horowitz. I am convinced that the key is preparation.…

Re: What are your difficult passages?
@Gail Starr The Rosina Lhevinne graduating class that included Martin Canin also included Van Cliburn and John Browning. That is a LOT of pianistic ability! Martin was very fond of both of them.…

Re: What are your difficult passages?
@Gail Starr Yes. I had a few lessons with her and many more with her assistant, Martin Canin, who was a wonderful person, musician and pianist. We were friends from that time (65 years ago) until his…

Re: What are your difficult passages?
I've been playing the piano since I was 5. I'm now 81 and I still haven't quite figured it out :-) But I can share some things that took me too long to learn: 1.…

@Nigel Rogers Yes! Horowitz greatly admired Friedman and Friedman's way with the Mazurkas clearly influenced Horowitz.

Lipatti was a *phenomenal* pianist and musician. His Chopin Barcarolle is magnificent, as is his b-minor Sonata. I believe it was Stephen Hough who said that his recording of the Ravel Alborada del…

Another piece in this category for me is Beethoven's Op. 135 quartet -- particularly the "Muss es sein? Es muss sein!" last movement. This is Beethoven's last completed work. Fabulous music.

The Schubert Eb Piano Trio. Heavenly length (do NOT do the cuts in the last movement!). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdE4EF9TsJ0

Re: I'm a beginner, and confused about the fingering on this measure
Given the third finger on the E, I would probably play the mordant 2-1-2 and then cross the thumb under to play the D-E-F with 1-2-3. Having said that, my strategy might change if I saw more of the…
