Week 4 — Share Your Playing 🎶

We’ve reached the final part of the challenge.

You’ve chosen your piece, worked through the details, explored character and imagination — now it’s time to share where you are.

This week is about capturing your playing and putting it out there!

On April 3rd, we’ll host a live Watch Party, featuring submissions from across the community. This is a chance to hear each other, reflect on the process, and celebrate the work that’s gone into these past weeks.

Your Focus for the Week until April 3rd.

Record and submit your piece (or an excerpt).

That’s it.

No need for multiple takes, no pressure to polish everything. A single honest run-through is more than enough.

A few suggestions:

  • Record a full take, even if it’s not perfect
  • Let the character and musical idea lead!
  • Keep going, even through small slips
  • Think of it as sharing, not performing

How to Participate

  • Upload your video directly in the forum
  • Or share a link (YouTube, Google Drive, etc.)
  • Include the piece and anything you discovered while working on it

Whether this is your first time sharing or something you do often, this moment matters. It’s where the work becomes something real.

Looking forward to hearing what you’ve been building.

My approximation of the c minor Fantasie, K.475.  I haven't played Mozart for ages because it's been too elusive.  No exception here.  The score looks like it's sight readable, but that's very deceiving.  The more I work on it the harder it gets. I really like the piece, though.

Thank you Juan Carlos. I'm glad some of the nuances and some expressivity came through. Sometimes it takes another pair of ears to confirm this. I'm very happy if I'm on the right trajectory with this piece.

Here is one take on the 1st and 2nd movements of the k310.
Some unevenness and inaccuracies that Mozart are so good at showing! Well, gotta love him -  fantastic music! I'm sure I'll give this sonata a shot in a Community concert sometime.

PS: I'm on easter holiday at the cabin, so you see me playing on my electric piano Yamaha p125. Nothing fancy, but a very nice one for this purpose.

That is a substantial amount of work you've done Sindre! You have a pleasing confidence in much of your playing of the first movement. In particular, your sixteenth passage work in the exposition is quite florid and at ease technically. The second movement is even more challenging than the first so well done adding this in for the same 4-week challenge! You have a very elegant, inward tone through much of your playing of this movement. Extra impressive that you have it all memorized. Thanks for sharing and keep up the excellent work on this masterpiece sonata.

A huge bravo, Sindre! Perfect character and style. There's great tension and drama in the first movement, and beautiful lyricism in the second. I can't wait to hear you play the entire sonata, you've truly mastered it.

This is my take on Mozart’s Andante from Piano Concerto No. 21 (KV 467). Almost in time with the orchestra and with some slips. Actually, I did not expect to get it that far at all. The most difficult aspect was getting everything in time. It might be better tomorrow, but I share today’s result already, to keep my expectations in check.

Well done Astrida =). You have a charming, delicato tone to your playing of this movement. Some very good ensemble work with the backing track too! Very impressive progress in the 4 weeks. I really enjoyed hearing it!

Beautifully shaped phrasing and rich tone color. What a great idea to play this movement with orchestra, it creates the perfect atmosphere, Bravo, Astrida!!

Astrida, how wonderful! I really enjoyed your performance and interpretation !!😍👍 Good. May I ask you a question? How do you find an orchestral performance to play with that doesn't already have the pianist present? I'd like to try playing some piano concertos too and I don't know how.😁

Thank you, dear Claudia! The beginning of putting myself with the orchestra was extremely difficult. I need to say that I have no ensemble experience at all, so the degree of difficulty might be highly relative. It helped a lot to play from the full score. It makes for many page turns but who cares if this helps to follow the music.

If you ask about where to get the orchestra part recordings without soloist, it gets more tricky. I was lucky to find mine on YouTube. I have seen HalLeonard has some play-alongs with real orchestras, even digitally downloadable. Which concerto would you like to play?

I know Astrida already answered, but the sheet music app/website Tomplay has many concertos with orchestral accompaniment.

To start, I’d really like to try with the variation n. 18 of the Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini and then the second Movement of the piano concerto n.1 of Rachmaninov 😀😀. Thank you so much for your precious suggestions, Astrida.👏👏🙏🏻
