WEEK 2: What we've experienced!!!

WELCOME TO THE MAIN THREAD FOR THE SECOND WEEK OF "END OF THE YEAR" PRACTICE CHALLENGE!

  1. Select Your Piece(s): Choose one or more pieces that you've learned this year. It could be something you've practiced through our live streams, a personal favorite, or a challenging piece you've conquered.
  2. Record Your Performance: Film yourself playing your selected piece(s). Quality doesn't have to be professional – it's all about sharing your progress and passion.
  3. Share Your Journey: Post your video in our community forum under the "End of the Year Challenge" thread. Include a brief write-up about your experience learning the piece – what challenges you faced, how you overcame them, and what this piece means to you. If you don't want to record yourself, show us a video of a piece you plan to take on in the next year!
  4. Engage with Others: Watch, comment, and encourage your fellow community members. Share your feedback, experiences, and celebrate each other's progress.

↓ Happy Sharing! ↓

  • Hello,

here is Étude op.10, no.9 of Chopin and Rêverie of Claude Debussy, which I learned in last few weeks for Christmas recital of my mum’s students…

I memorised them in a short time, a few mistakes are still there though…

    Thanks!

Gayaneh Lustermann I love the way you breathe into the phrases and you do such a great job bringing out the melody in the LH.  Your performance defines "reverie" the way Debussy must have had in mind.

This year has been quite significant in my pianistic growth.  I have linked a piece which I composed myself.  It was for an own composition section in my local Eisteddfod, and one of my first compositions (other than some uneducated attempts as a young child).  More compositions and performances can be found on my YouTube channel.

    • Josh&Tim I enjoyed listening to that, especially the last minute, and the flourish at the end. I'm not convinced the last third of the piece connects very well with the gloomy left hand repeating motif at the beginning.

      But overall, very good!

Miyoung Choi Wonderful. I really liked the delicacy of the descending RH passage near the end, gradually building in strength. I admire your tonal control.

I really had hoped this would be in a better place by the end of the year, but here we are January 1st. This is by far the most complicated piece I have ever attempted. I plan on working  on it for a bit longer to polish it up with the goal of playing it in front of people for the end o the month.

Michael Great job on a SUPER difficult piece!  And your leming-themed sweater enhances your performance even more.  Your audience at the end of the month will be so happy.
