  • Dominic Cheli I would love to listen to this recital, but Monday at noon is right in the middle of my (and many other people’s) workday. Is 12:00 pm EST really the correct time? I’m asking only because in the description, you said “an EVENING filled with enchanting performances” - which would be true for our European friends, but not for anyone in the U.S.

    • Alexander Weymann I am sorry about that! Unfortunately because this is going to be across all platforms, it has to happen at this time, so European audience can tune in and play.

My apologies that it doesn't work for your schedule!

I would like to submit a recording of “Blue” by Ola Gjeilo for the community concert!  It’s not quite 3 minutes long. I would enjoy the opportunity of sharing this piece with the Tonebase community.

    • Randall Wayne It sounds beautiful! But

Apologies! Because we have a cross-platform concert with all 5 instrument verticals happening today, we were prioritizing live performances, and then could only take limited number of recordings.

For Piano-only concerts, we ALWAYS feature every submission. I will feature this in January, if that is ok!

Hey Dominic! May I submit a super short recording of Chopin’s c#minor nocturne? It’s under 3 minutes.

Hi Dominic. I would like to play Venezuelan music. I understand it should short. The suite is in the style of Schumann's Children's Scenes.

16 Children's Pieces by Antonio Estévez.

I would make a selection of 4 or 5, or even 3 if you consider it appropriate.

    Thank you!

Here's the link to my Chopin c# minor Nocturne (observed by 2 little holiday gnomes) for the concert since I'm not able to play live.  Happy Holidays, Tonebase friends!

Gail Starr That was a great performance!

    • Gail Starr amazing rendition; just lovely! Beautiful cantabile, tasteful rubato, and the whole piece came together as an organic unit, leaving me with a satisfied sigh at the end. As the music went on, the two gnomes started to look as though they were dreaming... đŸ˜‰

Alexander Weymann Dearest Alex, since I trust your judgment more than my own, I'm delighted that you (and my little gnome family) enjoyed my Chopin.

The best thing about this year with Tonebase has been getting to hear YOU and my other amazing friends play and grow as musicians!

Thanks Dominic Cheli for your tips on the techy stuff about Zoom.

Whoops! I missed it! I shall watch it on catch-up, hoping it's there later.  I thought/assumed it was 7pm GMT and didn't notice that it was earlier.

I am going through the balistics that pervade our lives as we move towards having three whole public holidays (this should be in bold and underlined for emphasis) for the Winter Break (non-religious terminology) so I could not have joined at 5pm.

Why is it every year that the world goes mad around this time?  Is it a fear that it will end because we're not available to be controlled by others, to whom we sell our labour not our souls?

On the up-side... I loved the Tango session we did on Piano with Pablo Estigarribia on Saturday.  This has inspired me to find my 'Histoire du Tango', which is quite pristine because when I bought it, I couldn't understand how to read the markings in it.  Now, thanks to Pablo, I understand the markings, excluding the violin markings!  Also, it has to be said that I have listened to numerous interpretations on Youtube, and some of them have the articulations!

These are the notes from my score: The Tango originated in Buenos Aires in 1882.  It was first played on the guitar and the flute (big bold for Chelsea Tanner and @Martin zimmy) Where is Martin - his contact name on TB is not coming up?

L'histoire is terrific for the flute and I am sure for the guitar too: for flute - the percussive action, glissandi effects, double and flutter-tonguing.  What's not to like?

I then thought yesterday (17 Dec) that I could work on L'Histoire and contact the guitar platform to work with a guitarist and and we could play one of the movements together in the end-of-year show, not realising that the show was the next day and two hours earlier than expected.  Even the slower movements should not be preformed this lightly.

However, let's start early for next year?

Notes from my score:  Bordello 1900; This music is full of grace and liveliness.  It paints a picture of the good natured chatter of the French, Italian, and Spanish women, who peopled these bordellos as the teased the policemen, thieves, sailors, and rif-fraff, who came to see them.  This is a gay tango.

Tango is like jazz.  It needs to be raw - out there!  Love it!  It's on the edge - always!

Ben Laude Profuse apologies on the Schubert TWI: ditto with the pressures of work, albeit, I am working on this TWI on Schubert, who was no doubt aware of the equivalent set-up with regards to bordellos, albeit it's difficult to comprehend from the Austria we see nowadays (as tourists of Salzburg from time to time).

Season's Greetings to all on TB and thanking Ben Laude , Dominic Cheli and Chelsea Tanner and all the back-office staff for all of your dedication and inspirational work.  So much appreciated!
