Week 4: Share your Recording!

We’ve arrived at the final week of the Lisztomaniac Challenge!

Over the past few weeks, you chose a piece, took your first steps, and started shaping the music. Now it’s time to share where the journey has taken you.

This week, we’d love for you to post a recording of your Liszt piece or excerpt.

It does not need to be perfect. It does not need to be polished. It does not need to be the final version you’ll ever play.

A short excerpt, a work-in-progress, or a full performance are all welcome.

This week here are some things that you can share!

  • Your final challenge recording
  • A short excerpt or work-in-progress clip
  • What you worked on during the challenge
  • Something you discovered about Liszt’s music
  • Something you’re proud of!

Whether you spent the month with a Consolation, a transcription, a Hungarian Rhapsody, a piece from Years of Pilgrimage, a Transcendental Étude, or just a few meaningful measures, thank you for being part of this challenge.

We can’t wait to hear everyone’s Liszt!

    Liszt etude S.136-2

Earlier in the challenge, I decided not to participate because of health reasons. Summer holiday from work and having less stress helps a lot. So, this is the video, and the result so far. Thank you for listening.

How good to hear that you’re feeling better! I have to admit that I do not know this etude at all. I admire you all for choosing these challenging etudes. A big bravo 👏

Chasse-Neige will be split between no less than FIVE people! That one will be truly epic.

Epic! Absolutely wonderful! Almost unbelievable! Congratulations!

P.S. If that’s cognitive decline, Noel you mention, then may we all deteriorate so spectacularly. Sign me up.

Oh and here's my Transcendental Etude no.1. You've already seen this, I'm just posting it here for Dominic to include it to the watch party. No time for my new version nor for Fusées, that will be for the October challenge!😅

You bet! Alex and I probably have the energy (and slightly delusional brazenness) to play a half each, but we're planning to have more pianists join us, namely Mark, Sindre, and Maria! That will be quite a Finale for the October Challenge.

Some afterthoughts. (Alert: wall of text incoming)

Again I want to thank you all for sharing my enthusiasm in this project. It started as a very personal project, from my insecurities about aging and losing my cognitive abilities (slowly, just normal for my age!), a goodbye to the extremely virtuosic music that will always be my favorite to play. At some point during this challenge I felt bad for dragging everyone into this. When I started this I thought it would be fun to start this exuberant project featuring a group of amateurs playing all the Transcendental Etudes. But then I started regretting it as I struggled to play the pieces to my liking😅. So thanks again everyone and let's finish off this project in October!

    Hi everyone,

I have just listened to the recording of tonight‘s concert, and wow, it was absolutely fantastic! Congratulations to everyone who played, simply amazing.

I am looking forward to contributing my part for the October concert, and hearing everybody else’s.

    Happy summer practising!
