Tonebase Bach Stage
This thread is dedicated to J.S. Bach keyboard music. We would like to renew the inspiring spirit of the old thread "Group-Journey through J.S. Bach" based on the inventions and extend to the entire Bach repertoire: inventions, preludes, fugues, toccatas, dances of the Suites and Partitas...
This is for everyone who wants to join!
We can enjoy Bach music together and motivate each other in the process of learning and practicing it!
"I begin every day with Bach - usually for about an hour. I used to torture myself with Czerny, which of course wasn't exactly stimulating for the mind. On the other hand, it teaches you the fingering for a B flat major scale, chromatic thirds, and so on. The daily grind of learning. Later, I discovered that I could get my 'training' under way better with Bach - a refreshment for the body, soul and spirit". (András Schiff, Music Comes Out of Silence, p. 21)

I am so very happy to be adding another submission to this thread. I've had quite a journey with BWV 999, Little Prelude in C minor. I am pleased and satisfied with the recording I am attaching below. I've been a little obsessed with this piece over the past month (as evidenced by how many times I've posted progress reports in my own practice diary). It took me quite a while to commit it to memory and, as I expected, once I finally had it memorized I was able to settle and just play. For me, this is about the best playing I can expect from a recording - just a few little errors, and I'm getting better at recovering quickly. I remember when Thurmond could "suddenly" play through a piece without pauses, and I think I'm getting close to that myself! I hope you enjoy this, as I certainly enjoyed learning and playing it. Playing Bach helps keep me happy. 😄

I can hardly believe it's been seven months since I uploaded my last video here, especially since I've been playing Bach every single day (Goldberg Variations, Chaconne in Brahm's transcription, Preludes and Fugues, Partita...). Anyway, here is my beloved Sarabande from the Partita in C minor: music for both the mind and the heart; music to meditate on without words, only through the sounds of the greatest composer who ever lived.
I hope to post on this Bach stage more frequently form now on, and to share more videos of the Goldberg Variations and the complete Chaconne for the left hand...

Prelude in B Major, Well Tempered Clavier, Book 2.
OK it's time I posted something myself. Here are my takes on the B Major Prelude and Fugue from Book 2 of the Well Tempered Clavier. I tried playing it in the May Community concert and had a bad memory slip which I very clumsily tried to recover from. I spent another 6 weeks on shoring up the memorization and some of the technical aspects, and this is the result (played from memory even though it looks like i've got the score open from the Prelude). Now it seems like I am finally ready to start learning it....
