Tonebase Bach Stage

This thread is dedicated to J.S. Bach keyboard music. We would like to renew the inspiring spirit of the old thread "Group-Journey through J.S. Bach" based on the inventions and extend to the entire Bach repertoire: inventions, preludes, fugues, toccatas, dances of the Suites and Partitas...

This is for everyone who wants to join!

We can enjoy Bach music together and motivate each other in the process of learning and practicing it!

"I begin every day with Bach - usually for about an hour. I used to torture myself with Czerny, which of course wasn't exactly stimulating for the mind. On the other hand, it teaches you the fingering for a B flat major scale, chromatic thirds, and so on. The daily grind of learning. Later, I discovered that I could get my 'training' under way better with Bach - a refreshment for the body, soul and spirit". (András Schiff, Music Comes Out of Silence, p. 21)

Can you imagine a better way to start the new year than dancing with Bach? (Gigue of the French Suite n5 in G major).

Andrea Buckland a Beautiful Fugue, beautifully performed Andrea. I think the trills in the subject can be very difficult to play gracefully, and so extra applause for those!

I am looking forward to being a part of this group showcasing progress and seeing others as well.

Here is my first Bach piece: Little Prelude in C minor

    Since this recording:

    • I have learned to relax more, lifting hands a bit higher and pulling with the figures ever so slightly vs just mashing with fingers.
    • I am practicing on 8th click at 120 bpm.
    • I learned the song by memory from just playing over and over.
    • i notice I memorize and stop looking at the sheet music and at a revisit I was lost looking at sheet music. So I slowed down again and analyzed the music again and with intention started reading again. My goal is to sight-read really well, so it is best to make sure I am keeping up my reading.

Hi Juan Carlos and Bach fans! Here's my Bach contribution — Prelude No. 21 in B-flat major from Book 1, it's short and snappy, but says a lot! I haven't got round to learning the fugue... at least not yet...

Tammy a brilliant performance Tammy.  I love the way the RH part sounds like shimmering violins supporting the melody steps in the bass, and then the scales pop out like shoots of light in a fireworks display. Bach is showing here how he can fashion a display of brilliance without compromising the musical soundness of the thematic material, and you bring all of this out really well!  Are we going to get to hear your take on the fugue sometime soon? or something else anyway?  I hope so!
