Tonebase Bach Stage
This thread is dedicated to J.S. Bach keyboard music. We would like to renew the inspiring spirit of the old thread "Group-Journey through J.S. Bach" based on the inventions and extend to the entire Bach repertoire: inventions, preludes, fugues, toccatas, dances of the Suites and Partitas...
This is for everyone who wants to join!
We can enjoy Bach music together and motivate each other in the process of learning and practicing it!
"I begin every day with Bach - usually for about an hour. I used to torture myself with Czerny, which of course wasn't exactly stimulating for the mind. On the other hand, it teaches you the fingering for a B flat major scale, chromatic thirds, and so on. The daily grind of learning. Later, I discovered that I could get my 'training' under way better with Bach - a refreshment for the body, soul and spirit". (András Schiff, Music Comes Out of Silence, p. 21)

Hello everyone, I am working on the Toccata No 6, BWV 830. Today, I made a first recording of the Toccata. Still work in progress!
Has anyone of you played this piece? Which pianist do you recommend as reference?
I’ve listened to (among others) Andras Schiff, and I’ve also done the Tonebase lessons dedicated to this Toccata.

I am so very happy to be adding another submission to this thread. I've had quite a journey with BWV 999, Little Prelude in C minor. I am pleased and satisfied with the recording I am attaching below. I've been a little obsessed with this piece over the past month (as evidenced by how many times I've posted progress reports in my own practice diary). It took me quite a while to commit it to memory and, as I expected, once I finally had it memorized I was able to settle and just play. For me, this is about the best playing I can expect from a recording - just a few little errors, and I'm getting better at recovering quickly. I remember when Thurmond could "suddenly" play through a piece without pauses, and I think I'm getting close to that myself! I hope you enjoy this, as I certainly enjoyed learning and playing it. Playing Bach helps keep me happy. 😄
