Tonebase Bach Stage

This thread is dedicated to J.S. Bach keyboard music. We would like to renew the inspiring spirit of the old thread "Group-Journey through J.S. Bach" based on the inventions and extend to the entire Bach repertoire: inventions, preludes, fugues, toccatas, dances of the Suites and Partitas...

This is for everyone who wants to join!

We can enjoy Bach music together and motivate each other in the process of learning and practicing it!

"I begin every day with Bach - usually for about an hour. I used to torture myself with Czerny, which of course wasn't exactly stimulating for the mind. On the other hand, it teaches you the fingering for a B flat major scale, chromatic thirds, and so on. The daily grind of learning. Later, I discovered that I could get my 'training' under way better with Bach - a refreshment for the body, soul and spirit". (András Schiff, Music Comes Out of Silence, p. 21)

Another step forward in my journey of learning the Partita No 6, BWV 830, by JS Bach. Here is my first recording of the Sarabande. I’ve started to learning this piece during the summer break. Last week, my new piano teacher gave me some helpful advice concerning the pulse and dance character of the Sarabande. With this in mind I decided to try a first recording of the whole piece. It still needs some time though. If you watch closely, you can see that I look very concentrated 😂

       Nicely played!

Congratulations on getting a new teacher. It’s interesting that someone at your level can still benefit from having a teacher. Perhaps there is no limit on having a teacher.

I just got a new teacher about a month ago. It has made all the difference in the world.

oh, I am just an amateur pianist and I heavily rely on a good teacher helping me to help me learn my pieces. Glad that you’ve also found a good teacher.

I aspire to your level of amateurism, lol. My last teacher forced me to do a lot of self-study because of missed lessons. That did not go well for me. I am much happier now.

Great work! Very solemn and reflective but with such emotional intensity throughout. You have really connected with this piece. Excellent sensitivity to the harmonies and their resolutions!

Wow, absolutely beautiful, Ursina! I love how you maintain a steady and singable pulse throughout, and the atmosphere is so plaintive and expressive. Your approach to this Partita is truly admirable. Thank you for sharing it!
